I've had cats all my life (til about ten years ago), and never gave one a bath. From a dog groomer I once knew, I had been told that owners of Persian cats would bring them in for a bath...no idea why.
@Neville Telen As a youngster, I bathed my cat occasionally, it did not like it, and always spent a half-hour or more licking it's fur afterward. However, years later, my two kitties, brother & sister, actually learned to swim the length of our pool, in Vegas. At first, urging was required to get them to jump in the deep end, they then swam to the steps, alighted on the top step, and stood there feeling cooler; they seemed to know the 110-degrees were eased by the water. After awhile, they did this quite often. Shortly after we got them, very young yet: The big guy got there first, his sister following slower. The lady is my wife's sister, then 16. KC at left, Oxie right. Fact that they did not immediately jump out and run seemed to infer reasonable acceptance, though the look in their eyes........they were not yet fully-grown in these pics. They did not fear the pool, seemingly. KC languishing on my desk a year or so later, next to my IBM Selectric (remember those?)
Yes, I can see they would like to swim once they got the hang of it and must be very good for them too
I'd be curious to know why cats are bathed....they don't exactly play in the mud like dogs do. I never had to give one a bath, nor did my Granny. Worst case scenario was once our longhair got into the bramble bushes and coated in burs. By the time he came round they had set in deep. He was not a happy pussy, and less so with us getting them out. Some had to be cut out (kinda like a gal getting chewing gum matted in her hair), so he ended up looking like male pattern baldness.
I've heard there are some breeds that like to play in water. Angora maybe? Definitely not 'Tigger the cat'. Sounds like he is screaming "NO!".
Nevel, i sure got some good laughs from your videos ,, thanks.. and Frank, i enjoyed the pics of those cats enjoying that pool.. i have 2 cats (and always had cats all my life) anywho, this is the first time i've ever had 2 cats that hate each other!! these pics right here are them at a stand-off.. usually the smallest one(female) always gives the male a good swipe with the her paw. but it happens so fast , im never able to catch it ..LOL they are a hoot!
Glad you liked the videos. Don't miss the dog videos I posted elsewhere (forget where). A good tearjerker also relieves stress! I'll keep on the watch for more cat videos. Beautiful cats!
That chair is where little Katrina sleeps at night, its her chair!! ! and she sneaks inside behind those throws at night to sleep .. its her hidey hole !! and Junior 's hidey hole is under the kitchen counter in a cabinet where i keep a pillow in there for him to hide in case he gets scared when it lightening and thundering outside or if some one rings the door bell. he makes a bee-line to get that cabinet door open, and get inside ,, and the door shuts by itself ..LOL
