On this date in 1942, City of New York outlawed pin-ball machines. The reason given was that the machines relied on the Laws of Chance rather than Skill.

So what? Monetary reward was not involved, a device offering a fun-diversion from everyday stress, became illegal. How can the law-making fools fail to realize that by instituting control over something having nothing whatsoever to do with Public Safety, Morals, or scruples, they further alienate their own constituency away from belief in their leadership, let alone the issue of future votes?

The law stood for 35 years, after which time it was rescinded.

Those law making fools have to do something to make us not too bright voters think they are doing something to earn their pay.
