One of our friends in upstate NY has a giant fire pit. It's a huge iron cauldron that he had to have forklifted in because it was just too heavy! Vince is Ron's oldest and dearest friend. They worked together for years on the railroad. We've both been jealous of Vince's cauldron for forever lol. There's no place on our property where something that big would work even if we could find something like that, and it didn't cost a fortune! But we really wanted something to have fires in. Recently Ron realized he had something that he'd been storing forever out in back of the garage (that's the place where all the "important stuff" he keeps goes to die lol!!) We call it our baby cauldron!
I found one of these back in 2000 something. It called out to me so I bought it. I didn't know it was a kerosene heater because there wasn't anything inside. I painted it Americana style and set it in my back yard. When the nights were chilly I would find tree branches, get some paper and light it up. It lasted for several years outside before it began to rust and fall apart. I think I still have the handle around here somewhere. A memento of moments of solitude.
