@Missy Lee Since it's easier sometimes, we have used a debit card with both companies.
Both companies are similar, both are non-cash providers.
Nice thing is the wait time is short in most cases.

I have used Uber a lot for a few years now, but not in the UK so far because I have a car. I use it frequently in Russia and last year in Malaysia and Indonesia where it worked really well and was very cheap, a dollar or so a ride. In southern India last month it was not so good because the drivers kept getting lost and couldn't find you :(, it was cash only there.

Very similar, in fact most of the drivers for UBER also drive for LYFT.

I like Uber. Whenever we're in the D.C. area we use it because the pain of finding a parking space (or paying for it) makes driving your own car undesirable. It's so much better than a cab.

Since I no longer drive or have a car I use the Oakmont Bus or Limo to go where I need to go and take my walker with me. I will take Uber if Bus or Limo not available.

I had a couple of appointments today and needed transportation. Uber for one and Lyft the other. Total cost was $ 28.00. Nice clean modern cars with the driver taking my walker and helping me in and out of the car.

Have they been on-time and reliable?

    Can you pay with plastic?

As far as I know, you need to use the app for both Uber and Lyft. When I have gone places with my daughter and she needed to get a ride for us to somewhere, she puts it in on the app, and I think that she pays for it before they even take us anywhere. The driver says where he/she is at and how soon they will be there, and you can follow their progress on the map for the app.
You can either give them money for the tip, or add that right onto the payment in the app afterwards.
Instacart works almost the same way, except for groceries. I am not sure if they have a map to follow the Instacart delivery person though.

Yes--They accept all major credit cards. I use my I Phone app to request a ride. I find them very prompt and reliable. All vehicles are insured for accidents. I have used Uber an Lyft for five years.

@Yvonne Smith , yes, Instacart does have a delivery map, which has been useful for me when a driver is lost -- I can see exactly where they are and know how to direct them to my place, which GPS often cannot find. Almost all delivery services I use have a map feature, but some apparently require the driver / shopper to add that or activate it on their end for it to really work.

We usually use Uber when we're in the Washington DC area because, even when we drive down, it's much easier, and usually cheaper, to use Uber than to fight the traffic and pay exorbitant parking fees. We have had no bad experiences, which hadn't been the case when we used taxis.

One of our Uber drivers took a shortcut through the Pentagon parking lot. He worked at the Pentagon, and drove Uber after work, on weekends, or during vacation time. As it was the shift change time at the Pentagon while he was going through, he showed us on his mobile phone app how many people were going on duty with Uber as soon as they got in their car in the Pentagon parking lot, and there were a lot of them.

Another Uber driver told us that driving for Uber more than made the payments on his new car and that Uber would even finance new cars for long-term Uber drivers who have a good record with them.
