I would like to try a hot buttered crumpet, so far I've had to be content with muffins. "Last muffin means a handsome wife and ten thousand a year, you know. I should risk it for the sake of the future Mrs Bullock." - Katherine - 1939 Goodbye Mr. Chips
That looks like what we call an English Muffin, @Terry Page . Is it the same thing ? I have read about crumpets in novels that were set in England; but I never had any idea what a crumpet might be. I like English Muffins, and usually just have them with butter, but I prefer some cranberry sauce on top, as well.
I had them as a child a lot @Holly Saunders , we used to toast therm by an open fire as in the pic below, with a toasting fork exactly like the one shown.I recall having jam or syrup on them sometimes. I also seem to remember them being called pikelets at times, but they are entirely different in reality. I only recently rediscovered them because Cathy buys them regularly, so I tried one, with just butter and liked it. Pikelets
Never had them. In the first post, they look crunchy. I know I would like them, with butter. The last post looks more like our pancakes.
They're not crunchy Nancy..they're very soft and kinda spongy inside.. with lots of holes in the top. I suppose if you toasted them for long enough they'd become crispy on the top, but they're not supposed to be.. yes I remember the toasting fork in front of the fire Terry ... Yvonne, although they look similar, English Muffins ( which we just call Muffins) , and Crumpets taste very different...
Many years ago, some store here sold crumpets, briefly. Yes, they are a bit different from our English Muffins here. But tasty. I eat Em with sausage and egg, apple butter or peanut butter and jelly. Toasted in the toaster first. Tasty
Ive seen them in some stores... maybe Trader Joe's? Might even have eaten one, not sure though. Except for my fiber cereal I'm not a carb breakfast type person....prefer eggs. Ive never liked pancakes but do like crepes.
I don't remember (English) muffins from childhood, but they were obviously around, I have them sometimes these days with cheese maybe, you usually buy them ready split and lightly toast them. I always toasted crumpets till they were slightly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, which is easier by a roaring open fire. I have never found either crumpets or English muffins in Russia. English Muffins Pikelets look a lot like the Russian blini to me Blinis Pikelets
I'd forgotten about Pikelets.. I used to like those.. a kinda cross between a pancake and a crumpet... and very much like a Blini to look at.. I haven't seen Pikelets in years, perhaps they've stopped doing them down South!!..
Pikelets look a lot like the Russian blini to me... that is a breakfast from McDonalds here. I make them at home, less fat.
Crumpets were my favorite when I was young probably because of real butter that filled all the holes than later we added peanut butter. later in life we got introduced to English muffins but not quite the same. Now I am off all wheat products I am quite limited nice part is they don't see them down here so the choice is easy. AT lease pancakes can be made with rice flour so they are on the dinner table quit often
