No, this is not a recipe for beans but the name of a game we played when I was a kid growing up in the slums. There were about ten of us in my little "gang" and in those days we would wear garrison belts. A garrison belt is a thick leather belt with a brass buckle.

One of us was chosen to hide the belt in a vacant lot and then he would yell out Hot Beans and go to a "safe zone" while the rest of us were searching for the belt. If you spotted it, you would try to manipulate a few people to the area, then pick up the belt and started swinging it, buckle first, at the unfortunately friends who were close by. The only rule we had was that we would not hit any faces. Everybody would run to the "safe zone" and then we would decide who was hurt most and he would be selected to hide the belt.

A rather vicious game and I sometimes wonder how I lived through those days.
