For the past few days, I have had a very hoarse cough, although I don't have a sore throat, and feel fine otherwise. By that, I mean that there are no other signs or symptoms of an illness - other than sleeping; I have been sleeping more than usual, even a nap in the afternoon, which is not like me, but may be wholly unrelated to the cough. I have been drinking tea with a great deal of honey, and that seems to be helping. In fact, after I complete a cup of such tea, the cough goes away entirely for a while and, overall, it's not as bad now as it was a few days ago.
Is your inside air very dry? That could cause a dry throat, Maybe you need to add some moisture to the air.
sorry about that ken... coughs are horrible, but try a little whisky in your tea instead and you'll forget you ever had a cough
Probably more so than before we had the house reinsulated. We used to go through about three tanks of oil in a winter and now one full tank will usually carry us through. With the chilly weather we've had the past few days, I imagine it is a bit on the dry side.
Air is usually drier, in the winter, in a house that's not .well insulated. Cold air can't hold as much moisture as warm air. Cooking and showering makes the air inside a house damper. The dry cold air from outside seeps in and replaces the warm damp air inside, then warms up, making the relative humidity low inside. However sitting right next to a space heater, can cause the air around you to be dry, and that can aggravate a cough.
I'd have probably failed that class if I had ever taken it. No, I haven't been using any space heaters yet this year. We keep the temperatures reasonably low, below 70, but not cold.
I never took that class either, or if I did I forgot it. I have a 100 year old house that had no insulation in it when I bought it. The basement is still uninsulated and the clothes dryer is down there. You have to use static dryer sheets or else you cannot tear the clothes apart when they come out of the dryer in the winter, and the static shocks are so strong they are almost painful. I had to find out why. lol
Back on Years Day Weekend of 2010, I got a bad cough. Had my wife take me to the doctor the following Monday and he sent me out for a chest x-ray that revealed I had a small pneumonia spot on my one lung. Gave me prescription cough medicine and an anti-biotic to clear it up and it did. From what I remember, I never got a Senior Flu Shot that year.
My granddaughter had a hoarse sounding cough with her RSV virus. And she slept alot more too. She also ran fever. I hope it's just a viral thing that will pass Ken...and I pray you will be fine real soon.
