‘Seniors only?’ I’m still a youngster at 63, but time marches on … I’m a Brit living in SE Asia for the past decade. I’m an English and social science teacher, just returned from six years of teaching in a Northern China state school and have spent decades travelling to and living in bizarre places. Previously the armed forces, university, a stint in mental health management and the logistics industry. I write about politics (including political satire), explanations behind current events, education, travel, British history and website SEO.
Welcome to the forum, @Montgomery Python , and I am definitely looking forward to reading more of your thoughts and ideas here on the forum ! If I am understanding you correctly , you are now returned back to England from the teaching experience in China ? You must have some wonderful stories, (and maybe pictures ?) to share with us about the things you have done and some of the “bizarre places” where you have been. Many of us are now armchair travelers, and we all enjoy the escapades of our friends here who are still able to travel and then share the experience with us.
Welcome Monty..., from the London Borders So you're a teacher and teaching in a Chinese school for the last 6 years, but still living in Asia.. absolutely fascinating... Can't wait to hear more..
Thanks for the welcome. I’m now back in Thailand which is where I’m based and I go out from here on employment contracts across Asia, although being over 60 they’re now few and far between! I left England over ten years ago and haven’t been back since. Amongst other things, I write about places I’ve been – this is a place near where I now live, with photos. (No download, just scroll down to read). https://www.academia.edu/37890084/Viharnra-Sien_Chinese_museum_sanctuary_review_guide_2018 And here’s me in Kangbashi, Inner Mongolia, on the edge of the Gobi desert.
One of this forum' inveterate travellers, has just returned to his Russian home after a wonderful trip to Thailand... search his name @Terry Page to find his holiday photos and description of his travels...
It is under Travel and Vacation, and called Three Weeks in Thailand. Here is a link to the thread, @Montgomery Python . http://www.seniorsonly.club/threads/three-weeks-in-thailand.11051/
Thanks. Good heavens, even I don’t have that many photos! Bangkok is OK, but no one I know actually lives there; it’s noisy, expensive and too touristy – like any capital city. Perfect for a holiday though as there’s plenty to see. Thailand has gone very quiet for the past few years as pre-recession millions were coming on credit cards. That’s now ended and the recession has caught up. Then the Russians came but as the rouble fell they left leaving the majority of tourists now on package holidays from China and South Korea. People were remarking on the do’s and don’ts. That’s the same everywhere. For instance, in Thailand racism based on skin colour is perfectly normal, but gambling is a criminal offence. In China and North Korea criticism of the government is illegal, but over charging customers based on ethnicity is perfectly acceptable. Different countries have different rules and although tourists are often given the benefit of the doubt, if the police think an illegal action is intentional the penalties can be severe.
