We are still fairly cool here ,it’s suppose to be spring but we still have 14-16 c days mind you it was really nice a sunny out today ,we actually sat outside for quite a while because it was chilly inside
Kate... Do you have bugs like we do ??? I mean, black flies, mosquitoes, horse flies, deer flies and others like them ...
We have flies (lots of them ) both big and tiny ( bush flies are tiny ) some bite like March flies that are big and give a nasty bite and hence the name they appear in March Yes to mozzies ,I think horse stables have trouble with March flies and others as well, including blowflies We call blowies Remember we have some of the deadliest snakes and spiders in the world as well as heaps of bugs https://www.smh.com.au/technology/w...stralia-heres-swats-what-20171220-h07sbk.html
Kate.... I promise you I will NEVER complain again about the flies we have.. Seems like you out-do us by a long shot...... Deadly snakes ??? ............. Deadly spiders ??? .............. Hmmmm !!!!!!!! ................. I think we have it very good up here with those small black flies that only last about 3 weeks and the mosquitos that aren't really that bad...
I will take our snow and cold anytime, rather than the extreme heat, and who know what, as far as those poisonous snakes and spiders goes....
Here Steve this will, make you shudder https://www.australiangeographic.co.../2012/07/australias-10-most-dangerous-snakes/
Shirley.... NO... nothing like that.. No snakes that are dangerous.. Only garter snakes that are about 6" to 12" long and they are harmless.. They eat toads, frogs, and field mice.. The only spiders we have are the small ones that are more of a pest than dangerous.. No venomous snakes or spiders.. Kate...………….…. WOW !!!!!
Regarding info I described briefly in things you dislike @Shirley Martin A Stobie pole is unique to south Australia it’s our poles that carry our power lines They are a mixture of steel and concrete. It’s rare to see stobie poles in other states like Queensland / Victoria / NSW ( unless other states have installed them since we spent two, years traveling around Australia in 2004- 2006 ) Most other states use wood ( useally plantation grown pine ) that is not favoured by termites Many people are killed in SA buy hitting stobie poles ,with a car / truck / motor bike being very strong steel people dont stand much of a chance of surviving if they hit one With modern underground electricity now days the stobie pole is disappearing as new areas / road ways are developed https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stobie_pole
We up here use wood for our poles.. I'm not sure what kind of wood it is, but I know that some are cedar and the poles are treated to last 50 or more years..
@Kate Ellery , they are not very pretty but seem to be functional. I can see how hitting one with a car would be bad.
I will be gone for a while.......... My daughter and her daughter (my granddaughter) are coming to our house for the Thanksgiving Weekend which is today Friday till Monday.. They will be staying in the 2nd bedroom where my desktop computer is.. My wife has a laptop that I often use to post on here, but I want to spend all the time with them.. We don't get to see them very often and time with them is important.. I will be back on here late Monday night or Tuesday... It is our Thanksgiving this weekend.............
Just a very quick update... TURKEY.... TURKEY.... AND MORE TURKEY is what we have been eating.. Stuffing, carrots and turnip mix, broiled potatoes, cranberry sauce, and a homemade apple crisp served with real whipped cream for dessert.. Non alcoholic apple cider (bubbly) as the champagne.... Pot of Folgers... Nobody walked away not fully stuffed from the table that we set with our good dishes and silver wear.. I think there will be enough TURKEY for us to eat till the end of the year ...... It was only an 11 pounder but there is an awful amount of meat on that bird... I kept on referring to the TURKEY as .. "A dead Bird".. to which they didn't appreciate it, especially my granddaughter who is going on 8 years old... C'mon grandpa, that's not nice to the TURKEY.... Kids will be kids..... I made them French Toast for breakfast one morning and scrambled eggs and chicken bacon with toasted bagels the next day.. They absolutely loved grandpa's cooking.. A novelty.. Must run but I will be back later on..... maybe ....
