Has anyone used duck fat? I've been hearing/reading for some time that its delicious.

As I write I'm making experimental home fries in duck fat. I'm not much of a fry-type gal. I rarely make true French fries, too much work and never make classic fried chicken, as much as I love it.
I usually saute with olive oil or sometimes butter.

I've heard French fries in duck fat are heavenly and once you eat fried chicken in duck fat, you'll never go back. So I wonder.

I bought a 7oz. container of rendered duck fat for the high cost of $7.00, at a fancy gourmet shop. My local supermarkets don't sell it. But what the heck, this kind of activity is my hobby. It's odorless until heated

My home fries are almost done.

Yes, I have but very long ago when husband was still alive. It's delicious!

Being Hungarian I grew up eating things in some sort of rendered animal fat but now I usually only use boring olive oil! :)

I made roast duck a lot and would have lots of rendered fat and then I would cook potato wedges in that....the BEST!

Chrissy, now that I've eaten my home fries I will agree they are delicious. But there's not this huge difference like I'd gathered from all the foodie-hype.

Since olive oil and canola oil are not as unhealthy as animal fat, once my duck fat is gone, its back to those.

But wait....I read a few year back that leaf-lard is really not unhealthy if rendered correctly. Oh well, not being a deep-fryer I'll never do it anyway.

    Leaf lard?

Did you buy your duck fat? Mine was always from a duck that I roasted, maybe that was the difference. Its been a very long time for me but I do remember that there was quite a difference in taste.

Yes Chrissy I bought the duck fat. I see what you mean.

Actually I went back for more and being cooler, I got much more flavor than when I was wolfing them down while burning my mouth practically! Even more delicious.

Now I'm almost inspired to roast a duck which I've never done before.

Leaf lard, that's beef. Really had nothing to do with the topic, sorry.

Goose fat is even better than duck fat! :)

Beef fat is the only fat that sounds unappealing to me.

Hahaa Chrissy, I fixed the goose. I meant duck. I don't know why I thought goose.

Lol...oh well..I'll leave my post as is! Goose fat is better slightly than duck fat....in my opinion.

    Very similar though.
