A super rich guy has managed to get his idea of a flat pack truck finished I've seen it in action and its fab ! It goes over rocky terrain like a four wheel drive. Initially he is giving these trucks to African farmers. It will take 3 men to put the truck together in 12 hours. It also includes a ramp to load cattle. What a lovely man he is Here it is - the OX
Will this be a big help for African farmers? What about gas? Patsy, I need to know more, lol. I know nothing about trucks so I don't understand why this one is so special, etc. Tires look kind if small for a big truck but all in all....nice looking truck
Mercedes-Benz UNIMOG, said to be legendary. There was actually one for sale in the small town of Salem, Missouri, (pop. 3800), when we lived there. I had never seen one in person before! @Ken Anderson You ought to have one of these babies for that place up in the woods! Frank
If I could afford it, this is what I'd like to have on my land up north. Extensions are available to turn them into a snowblower, a plow, a backhoe, and some others. Or maybe even this, a slightly smaller model.
@Ken Anderson A tracked vehicle! Great pulling power over tired vehicle (no pun), but cannot easily travel great distances. If kept on a specific location, good choice! A baby "tank"!
@Chrissy Page You're right ! Well it does 600 miles to a tank of gas - also, he can ship off loads of these trucks being flat packed. The thing is Chrissy, poor countries don't have 'any' trucks, so everything is done by hand To think he came up with this idea is bloomin' marvellous EDIT - He spent 3 million getting this truck to the finish stage, so he won't be giving them away ....................They aim to sell it very cheaply to development agencies, the UN and village co-operatives Its amazing - but it can withstand tonnes of weight - a little marvel it is
@Patsy Faye Is one of the benefits that it is packed flat and then put together, rather than shipped in its entirety as most vehicles are? I'm not familiar with the term flat packed, and am also not all that familiar with trucks/utility vehicles. That sounds like great gas mileage, I wonder how he accomplished that, and if he can do it, why can't other vehicle manufacturers? I don't drive that much, and it seems I'm also hovering around 1/4 tank. I need to get a locking gas cap one of these days, because sometimes I suspect that the little buggers around here steal gas after dark so they can joy ride in their parents' golf carts while the parents are passed out and oblivious to their wanderings.
@Diane Lane - that's right, he can ship so many trucks because they are boxed up Get a locking cap - we had sugar put in the tank, many moons ago
Wow, 600 miles to a tank of gas that is really amazing. If that design is mastered, it may be the future for trucks everywhere. It is so expensive to run trucks so many places that a Flat Pack truck may be the wave of the future. That is truly amazing really. Just think of the applications not only in Africa, but in other places as well! Maybe we will be seeing them everywhere in 20 years.
Grrr. I hate when people do things like that. I don't have a penny to spare right now, and I think the last time I checked they were around $20-$30, but it's on my list of things to buy when the situation improves. I've never understood why people have to do things like that, and harm others. Most of us are doing all we can to survive as it is, and don't need the added stress of antics like that. What did you have to do to rectify it? I have heard of it happening, but don't know how it's fixed.
The garage said it must have been a couple of bags of sugar - the fuel line and engine were so sticky and gunged up We had to part with that car - shame, we had done a lot of work on it Will 'never' understand the mentality of some people @Diane Lane
