"On this day in 1887, Groundhog Day, featuring a rodent meteorologist, is celebrated for the first time at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. According to tradition, if a groundhog comes out of its hole on this day and sees its shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter weather; no shadow means an early spring".
Yes, I have some friends in the Toronto area and you are right about that. He doesn't forecast for Fresno either...we are already in spring it seems. I think winter is over, starting to inch up to the 70's.
My Grandpap, on my Dad's side, was born on Groundhog Day, in 1888, I'm not sure if he saw his shadow, but he lived for 6 decades.
It's been quite awhile since I saw it but I love everything with Bill Murray. My favorites of his though were the ones that weren't comedies, or at least were of a more serious nature.
Saw this on another forum and thought it was funny..... Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow and predicted 4 more years of snowflakes!
