Ever been to an AKC sanctioned Dog Show? If so, you may have seen in their listing of the breeds represented referring to the German Shepherd as "German Shepherd DOG". This is the only breed in dog shows with the official suffix of DOG! None of the other dozens of breeds list names with this suffix...only the German Shepherd. Hal
My girl Mica at playtime she can still do it we went to many working K9 meets when she was younger. This was in Kansas when the lady asked to "love on her" after I said I would not she does not know nor trust you she did not listen but Mica got the point across well to her she declined then
My avatar Matt was my partner 8 years then retired and I got her after an adoption to handler finalized I lost her 4 years later to a stroke.
Last weekend, the Apple Valley Kennel Club presented its 49th Annual All Breed Dog Show, with Obedience and Rally Trials. There were 791 dogs registered for the 8-ring show in the following judging categories: Working Herding Sporting Hounds Terriers Toys The largest dog was a 240-pound Great Dane, and the tallest was an Irish Wolfhound. Each group was seperately judged in one of 8 rings, with the winner of each group in a final judging for Best of Show, by a judge invited from the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club. This year's winner was a Black Labrador Retriever. Here is our Blue-Eyed Barbie Hal
No, Don...our Barbie wasn't entered. A dog has to be well-trained in socializing with strangers and other dogs to be allowed registration in a sanctioned Dog Show. Ours has never been trained to behave in such an environment. Of all 791 dogs entered in the show, not one growl was heard all day! They were all super well-behaved. An ordinary household pet could qualify if thoroughly trained, however. You'll never see any rough-housing at dog shows, such as shown between our Barbie and Jackie, while Trixie looks on! Hal
This has nothing to do with show dogs, but more to do with one of the best working dogs, the Border Collie. This short video shows the Border Collie literally running into the path of an oncoming vehicle to rescue his little Chihuahua playmate, it is amazing ! Sometimes, I think that we humans do not nearly give enough credit to the intelligence and love that our animal friends show, to us and to each other.
@Hal Pollner ..Not sure what they are called but also like the dog agility type shows. Watching them run, jump and swim. Really amazing to watch.
When my girls (K9's) were younger we went to a lot of K9 working dog meets, I love watching those very much and entered my girls a lot. In many years saw 1 protester only when was shown an instant change of mind, a large group of Military and Police dogs and on a Military base any negative would not be a good thing nor idea.
One of my coworkers raises AKC Shelties and competes in lots of dog shows. Her competition is Agility, and it's fascinating to watch those dogs "work."
