Other than occasional donations to the Salvation Army I don't Tithe and I don't attend church so no Offerings.
According to Rick Warren, Pastor of the exceptionally large, successful Saddleback Church in Southern California, membership tithes add up to less than 2% of likely gross incomes. That's a discouraging verdict for the hearts of Christians. If Christians all across America were to actually tithe 10% of their income, God's church would enact an extraordinary influence over the country's social and economic problems - certainly affecting society's beliefs, culture and values along the way. Rick by the way, takes no salary for pastoring the church for the past 35 years and tithes 91% of his multi-million dollar income. He sets a commendable example as a world famous mega church leader. Although Christians aren't obligated to follow the old Jewish laws of the Bible, most Christian churches will teach that 10% is still an applicable standard justified by scripture. Many detail it as a minimum by referencing other additional tithes required by Jewish law, but that doesn't go over well for Christians that don't feel compelled by the law (and clearly don't want to let go of any more money than necessary). In any case, for me, I've always given a 10% tithe, but my definition of income has certainly been questionable - ie gross vs net vs expendable spending money. As I've grown older and stronger in my faith, I agree with preachers and the Bible stating that you put your money where your heart is. That has me wanting to do a more proper amount.
Yes. My wife and I are members of different churches. So we've given more than 10% for several years. It is true what they say - one can't out give God. We have been very blessed.
My half brother and his wife have had separate banking accounts for years, because she wants to give a whole lot more to the church on Sunday than he does. My MIL use to give $200 a month tithing to her church. When we do go to church, we give $5 or $10 each. That's it. A church we attended in Jacksonville, FL, their Senior Pastor was making a million a year in salary. It showed up in the Budget Bulletin that was inserted in the regular Bulletin, that was sitting on the pews. Mega Churches have to make enough money to sustain their internal bills, which do include the Pastor's salary.
