If I found a big roll of wallpaper I would make the fan reversible.

Really, Von? Doesn't it eventually crack or do you use something to preserve it?

@Von Jones -- I don't know which is prettier... those fans or YOU. You are so talented (and lovely)! I have thought many times that I'd like something similar to those fans in a white translucent paper for a round window on the front of our house. The house faces west and in summer the sun just beats through that window... it's about 3' in diameter. So I might have to learn how to make those beautiful fans!

I wouldn't want total light blocking from that window because it illuminates the staircase, but a bit of muted light would be perfect. Hmmmm.

No, the wallpaper is not moistened as it would be to place on a wall. Think of it as construction paper.

@Beth Gallagher you're making me blush, thank you for both compliments.

The translucent paper for that purpose is an excellent idea. Easy peasy, you can do it.

The are so easy to make. Just like how an accordian looks or some oriental fans. Did you ever make them when you were little out of any type of paper to keep cool?

The best tip I can give you, should you decide to accept this mission, is when gathering the fan at the base use a hole puncher and pull a piece of cord or string around the base of the fan a couple of times and pull it tight enough to stay gathered.

I am totally sincere, Von... I don't dole out compliments unless I mean it. You are lovely.

Thanks, I will have to get some measurements on that window, which will be a challenge since it is very high... the foyer is open to the 2nd story and the window is "up there" over the stairs. Do you think reinforcing the punched holes with plastic tape or something would be a good idea? Do you simply thread some cord through there to hold the fan shape?

Taping to reinforce the punch holes is fine especially if the material is thinner than wallpaper. I didn't reinforce. Depending on the strength of the tape it could be used as well to hold the base of the fan together.

See, once the folding is completed the base needs to be held together. The wallpaper/paper will take the shape of the fan then.

@Von Jones Just been thinking about craft events and sales, both city and small towns that i've been to over the years. I've remember seeing some fans, were very small, not that well put and done, but nothing that matched yours in any way, shape or form. Once again, beautiful.

So school's out (Day 2) I started a project with 4 of my granddaughters. This is phase one completed. They chose their design fabric from my quilting stash. Underneath are what I call witch brooms made of twigs instead of straw. The brooms are almost as tall as they are. It wasn't easy trying to take these pictures but they knew when to say 'Cheese.' :D ...to be continued.

Do you actually use these pretty brooms to sweep or are the just decorative? Maybe the girls could decorate their spaces with them in unique ways.

The brooms are for crafts. This is another of many craft projects we've done and Mom has displayed them at home. Some make it home unscathed others don't and they are quick to tell me about it.
