Due to very high winds and downed power lines, two major wildfires in the Superior and Louisville areas broke out. Both cities are in Boulder County. All residents were ordered, not asked, to evacuate. Traffic out of subdivisions was backed up getting out of the area. Firemen were going to businesses, door-to-door, telling them "lock up and leave.........now!". Some 580 homes were completely lost, along with a Target SuperCenter and hotel. The fires started around 12:30PM yesterday and houses were still burning last night after dark. Due to winds of up to 80 mph, firefighters had a very hard time trying to put fires out. At the same time these two major wildfires were going on, a big snowstorm was on its way to the lower elevations of Colorado. Part of this snowstorm was already hitting Estes Park, aka Gateway To The Rockies (Rocky Mountain National Park) yesterday. A picture was shown on tv, showing a complete snow "white-out" in Estes Park and the entrance to RMNP. The snowstorm hit us, northern Colorado, this morning around 8AM. My wife has the day off, so we went to Dunkin Donuts for coffee and it was really starting to come down (snow) while we were out. Weather forecasters are saying this snowstorm is suppose to end in 24 hours, which, if that does happen, will give us inches-to-a foot of snow. Tomorrow mornings low will be 1 degree with high of under 20. A very cold day, with no snow melting at all.
Not at all. Not even any wildfire smoke. The fires were some 60 miles south of us. However, around 5PM, we could see large smoke clouds south of us. Snow is falling again. It stopped for awhile.
@Cody Fousnaugh My butt would not be going to donut land.. I would be staying in and drinking me own coffee. Such bravery
Just like the buffets in Nevada, Dunkin’ Donuts is quite safe. We all know that you can only get covid if you go to Golden Corral on Veteran’s Day.
It wasn't snowing when we left. But, started to heavily 3/4 of the way home. Snowed all day yesterday, last night and still snowing some this morning. We have around a foot, but maybe a little less. As I post this, it is 7 degrees outside. Snow isn't going anywhere soon.
Some new development with the wildfires: It was in local news, and now on the Internet, about a man with a gun who was arrested for threatening firefighters who were trying to put out the fires. He is from Louisville. Here is the info: Louisville Resident Stephen Roch Arrested For Threatening Firefighters At Marshall Fire (msn.com) Then, it was originally reported that the high winds downed some power lines that sparked the fires, but Excel Power Company states they have not found any downed lines in the areas. Wonder how this is going to turn out. Update: Authorities have pinpointed one subdivision where they think one fire was started, but the "was started" isn't confirmed yet, but the subdivision is. Unfortunately, almost a foot of snow is covering everything, hampering the investigation. But, Authorities say they will be totally professional in finding the cause.
