Did anyone here see the brutality of the police against the Spanish ? Catalonia wants independence and instigated a ballot vote. I think to see how many would want to be independent, even though the ballot was against the law and would not be recognised by the Government. To send in riot police to harm these voters was truly shocking to witness Why not just let them do their voting and then ignore !! Truly sickening
No, I didn't hear about it. My sister and her husband and youngest daughter are in Spain on vacation right now, don't know exactly where though...as they rented a car and drove to different areas.
Well I guess no one saw it or just not interested Sure is a crazy world and what an awful shame that is They seem to dismiss the beauty that surrounds them and perpetuate ugliness
ooooh I saw it...I've been following it for weeks, given that my daughter and I both have homes in Southern Spain, so its of great interest to us what may happen politically in Northern Spain. The Police brutality is not something unusual in Spain unfortunately...but it's not something of which people outside of Spain are usually aware However it was shocking to see the brutality meted out to people who were using their right to Vote in an (albeit illegal) election...
Then I'm glad it was shown, to make us aware It has been condemned and maybe, just maybe, change will come about
I doubt it Patsy..they are a law unto themselves the Spanish Police...corrupt as hell as is so many of the politicians .. and that's the truth. Just today the foreign minister denied any brutality took place... even tho' we watched it take place on the news ''live'' Spain’s foreign minister has argued police violence during Catalonia’s independence vote was “not extraordinary” and claimed “fake photos” of brutality have been circulating on social media. Violent scenes erupted across Catalonia on Sunday as riot police beat protesters and stormed polling stations in an eleventh-hour attempt to prevent the vote on independence from Spain going ahead. Catalan officials said at least 844 people and 33 police were hurt. Foreign minister Alfonso Dastis sought to downplay the violence which saw police fire rubber bullets despite them being illegal in Catalonia, use batons and drag peaceful protesters from the ground. Clashing with Sky News’ Europe correspondent Mark Stone live on air, Mr Dastis claimed some of the photos he had spotted online dated back to 2012 and he was keen to await “pieces of information that are not disputable”. But we can live in hope something will change, but I won't be holding my breath, TBH yesterday was a particularly horrible day... never to be forgotten in my mind at least... We had the Spanish referendum brutality The Las Vegas Massacre The collapse of Monarch, leaving thousands of people stuck abroad, and the loss of thousands of Jobs.. the death of Tom Petty... A dreadful day for so many...
It was - like I said 'crazy world' No, there were 'no' fake photos, it was moving video footage all the way
Spain is, and always was a Fascist Nation. It's membership of the EU was always aimed at " keeping our enemies even closer...".( Germany ) The vote on the right to independance was NOT ilegal because it was really an opinion poll, which anyone can instigate. There are no legal requirements for a non -binding referendum to be considered by any legal administration. In any case, though Catalonia is part of Spain it has it's own administration and therefore need only apply to itself for permission were it considered necessary. This is confusing to Non-Europeans, but consider it this way - Scotland has it's own devolved assembly. Catalonia is in a similar situation. Scotland can initiate a vote on independance at any time .we have our own legal system anyway. The point about the Catalonia independance vote is that it was not actually about a vote in favour of independance but about the right to vote for or against independance. There would have been no vote oif the Spanish Government had not said to the Catalonians that the people had no right to vote on their own future. The Spanish Government's attitude is akin to the German's attitude towards Brexit. The Spanish Economy is a mess and Catalonia is holding it up.Similarly, without Great Britain's contributions to the EU, it faces serious economic problems. The joint EU/Spanish stance may well cause further disputes within europe. Time will tell..
