"A guide to identifying antique cast iron skillets produced by several American manufacturers during the first half of the 20th century. Antique vendors (and especially eBay vendors) tend to price antique cast iron in two categories: overpriced "hot" names (especially Griswold and Wagner), and unknown "unmarked" cast iron pans that sell at a far lower price. This video offers tips on what to look for when you discover an "unmarked" cast iron pan, to determine the age and manufacturer of the pan -- and this will help you strike a good bargain or avoid being cheated".
I still use the cast iron set I purchased in 1978 at a long-defunct department store called Zayres. 3 skillets + dutch oven w/cover. Made in Korea. It's my daily use set.
6 Benefits Of Cooking In Cast Iron "Sometimes we can get so focused on what food we should or should not be eating that we lose sight of the bigger picture. It’s not just the food that matters, it’s how we prepare it. And the pots and pans we cook with are just as important as the food that goes in them". When “seasoned” properly, cast iron pans are naturally non-stick, just without the chemicals. Some people find cast iron difficult to care for, so here’s my simple solution How would it sound to have a pan that actually fortifies your food? Even non-acidic and quick cooking foods, like eggs and fried potatoes, averaged a five-fold increase in iron content when cooked in an iron skillet. As a young boy, growing up, I remember one piece of Cast Iron Cookware that my Mother used. It was a super heavy waffle iron, that had a hinged set of waffle irons that set on a cast iron base, over the stove top burner. the picture below is similar, but I don't remember a wooden handle, and it was much blacker. Not sure if it had a maker's name, I remember the waffles though!
On Friday, I went to BB & Beyond to look for a B&D toaster oven, and came across a heart shaped, 2 qt cast iron casserole dish. It is red on the outside and white on the inside. We used it on Sunday for scalloped potatos & ham! It was sort of a late Christmas/early Valentines Day gift. It has a red lid. I also bought a pair of food scissors, and a 8 inch cast iron skillet....along with the toaster oven.
Very nice. I like BB&B. It's one of the few places left that carries a decent selection of kitchen stuff...I really miss the dedicated kitchen cookware stores in the malls. Funny you should mention kitchen shears. I was just thinking last night that I could use a second set. Next time I get a BB&B coupon in the mail I'll have to make a trip to the city.
She can’t. A good, well seasoned cast iron skillet should never feel the pain of soap being put in it.
