In this film by D. W. Griffith, the KKK were regarded as Heroes in the birth of the Confederacy.

Yeah, I thought it was boring too, but I feel that way about pretty much any movies that were made during that time period.

The film is boring if you try and put it into the perspective 0f 2019. I looked at it from a Historical Perspective and the effect the film had on those living in 1915 which was huge .

Yes, I can see that it may have been an effective propaganda film in its day, as people were impressed with anything put on film then, and not accustomed to the technology that we're used to today.

The film Glorified the KKK which we find despicable today.

I know. I've seen it. Of course, the KKK was considered to be despicable by a lot of people at that time, as well. Interestingly, while most people associate the Klan with its anti-black agenda, there was a large KKK presence in Maine in the 1920s and 1930s. Their focus was not blacks or other ethnic minorities because there were almost none. Their focus was against Catholics. -- Wikipedia

This was in Milo, only about thirty miles from here.

In Parkman, Maine, not too far from there, the town council sent the town treasurer to jail for paying the war tax on the part of the town. The town's policy was that it was to refuse to support the Civil War effort, and they had directed him not to pay the tax. Threatened with jail time by the federal government, he paid it anyhow, so the town jailed him. Talk about rocks and hard places, it might have been better to resign.
