I belong to a facebook group (several actually) that have pictures and historical information about some of the amazing buildings that were made back in the late 1800’s, or even older than that , in some cases.
This thread is for pictures and stories of some of these awesomely beautiful buildings, not just in America, but all over the world.
I have seen some amazing ones from early Australia, so maybe our Aussie members will have pictures and historical stories to post from there country ?

This mansion is called the Wedding Cake House, and it was built in 1896 in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is called the Victorian Georgian revival style .

    Maine is a Non-Conformist, independent-thinking State!;)

During the landslide Presidential Election of 1936, FDR swept 46 of the 48 states, leaving only Maine and Vermont going to Alf Landon, the Republican candidate.

    I like their Lobsters too!

Dontcha just wish you could go and bring them back to life. I saw a few in West Virginia. No pix. but the place was so poor, even some stone county seat buildings looked abandoned. Lots of old stone houses that I could have picked one and adopted when I was younger. Some with a bit of land.
    Sigh.

That's down the road from me, a little under 90 minutes.

I just read that it went up for auction in October 2020. I don't know what the result was.
It's currently listed for $1,600,000 "As Is" and sits on 360+ acres. Estimated payments are $5,300 with a 20% down payment.

Looks like an Air BnB "after" pic, don't it?

This video shows Chicago with the amazing and beautiful homes and buildings that existed in the late 1800’s, and early 1900’s. Some of them were said to be made for the world’s fair as a temporary structure, and they were later destroyed.
It is hard to imagine how these beautiful structures would have been created with the basic tools and equipment that was available at that time.

I can't understand why they would destroy them either.
