Am I missing something? Why are so many of you , that have been on Forum a long time, suddenly using blank or generic avatars? Are we boycotting something ? I know that I have been changing mine more frequently,
but that's better than generic ones. Looks as though you no longer have a personality without one.

If there's a boycott, someone needs to let me in on it. I love me some righteous indignation. I don't even need to know what I'm talking about!!!

Since you raised the subject of avatars: I don't like it when people change theirs. I lose my frame of reference as to who the member is.

I am fine with it either way (keeping the same one or changing it), and I also like to change mine when the mood strikes me. The people who remove their avatar seem to think they are making some kind of statement, I guess, but it never has any positive results.
We have a few people who simply do not know how to post an avatar (or any picture), and Ken has helped some of those people when they explained they were not able to post their avatar. Joy is a good example of that. Her computer is so ancient that she can’t post a picture on here at all.

We have also talked about using some kind of symbol that Ken could just put up for people who do not have any kind of an avatar, and I am in favor of that.
Some places just put up a letter from their name (or username), so mine would be a “Y”, for example. It would be similar to how Ken put up the RIP avatar for members who have passed away.

I try to direct new people to the little box where you can set up preferences and post an avatar, but some people still do not use one, for whatever reason.

As @Yvonne Smith said, lots of people change them all the time. It takes me a while to get used to the new face. I've not changed mine since I've been here.

I can't imagine having the same thing like that over & over. I don't like having the same thing for dinner even 2 days in a row...leftovers gotta skip a day.

I found an easy way to change your avatar, which will work until the server people get the problem with uploading pictures worked out.
When you go to the place to change your avatar, there is an option to use a “Gravatar”, so I followed the instructions, and it is pretty simple to do.
It takes you to the Gravatar website, which is free to do, and then you can put in the picture you want to use as your avatar. There is an option to add all sorts pf other information if you want to, but I just said “not now” to all of that and just have the picture.

Once you have that done, you can come back to the forum page and put your email in, and it will use the image from Gravatar as your forum avatar. As far as I can tell, we should be able to change the Gravatar image as often as we want to, in case it takes longer to get the server people to fix the forum photo problem.
