They sold 220 million records worldwide but do you know that the Bee Gees began their careers in Australia. Yes they did in 1958 as three pimply faced English migrant teenagers living in Redcliffe, Qld. It was Australian music producer Robert Stigwood who discovered the Bee Gees singing at a local nite spot and set them on their path to success when he took them to England in 1967. The rest is history. Ever since Australia has played a small but important part in bringing music to the world. INXS, The Little River Band, Kylie Minogue, AC/DC, The Seekers, Olivia Newton-John, Savage Garden, Nick Cave and John Farnham, all started their music journeys from a place you Americans affectionately call Down Under. I prefer the Great Southern Land. Love this LRB classic.
Thanks @Craig Swanson I didn't know all of them came from Australia!! The BeeGees were always a favorite. About the time one would think their career had weaned off, they would reinvent and come back better than ever. Wildly talented.
@Bess Barber Australia can only claim them as far as creating their career with Spicks & Specks. They were English. Never Australian naturalized to my knowledge.
A lot of people don't know Russell Crowe was also a musician. I know because he was big my celebrity crush.
Can't say I've ever been a Kylie Minogue fan...(surely Australia's most successful export)... but I do like Natalie...
I adore this song one of my all time favourites , from keith Urban, and although NZ born was raised in Australia.. and learned all his music ability and got his big breaks there...
Yes @Bess Barber.. wildly talented and so much personal tragedy. Only the man after which the group is named..Barry Gibb remains out of the four Gibb brothers.
They were Australia's answer to the Mersey sounds of England. One of their best songs. This group had all their success on home soil..but feel certain they'd have made it big abroad.
Yes and sadly his voice is really going home now...!! ..not that anyone would ever tell him, so he continues to ''entertain''...
What about probably the longest surviving and most well know Ozzy folk band ever... the fabulous JD, and the boys...
