My MIL is 85. Her birthday is also in July, Lon, so apparently y'all are the same age.

you always amaze me.... 87 ?... that almost 9 decades, ( sorry to rub it in) and having seen various photos of you, I have to say you look 2 decades younger ...

Obviously my mother isn't a member of this forum but she would have been 86 this April .. and I know she would have been horrified at being in her 80's or close to 90 , because she would never have thought of herself as being old...
They say that it's better than the alternative and I'm sure for many it is... if you have good health, and look great for your years and are totally independent...

I often wonder if my mum had been alive today if she would have chosen to partake in forums like this, I'll never know...but I'm very glad you 3 do.... it's like having surrogate parents... ;):D

I try to stay as healthy as possible, Holly. I think it helped me also that I didn't have my son until I was 33, so he kept me young. His friends all love me and I have gone on many an outing with them and had a terrific time.

Are there any benefits to that privilege? Asking for a friend.

Just 80's? What if someone in their 90's wants to join? Here is the thing, you boys must choose Lois as the leader because the direction of this 80's group will not be a good one without female guidance. Boys will be boys and being in your 80's doesn't exempt you from this fact.

If you are lucky enough not to be chronically ill old age comes as a shock. You were the one who could mend everything and sort out problems for all the family. Suddenly your grandson becomes the man everyone turns too. You are proud but mildly resentful of the fact that he is clever and resourceful. In turn he is slightly confused. The man who knew everything has become dated. Memory and unresponsive limbs has made him stubborn, unable to accept modern methods, (why use a roller when twenty year old paintbrushes do the job.)
As for yourself? You worry at your loss of memory. Arthritis increasingly make jobs more difficult. Doctor Google becomes part of your browsing. Intolerance makes you an awkward old fart and previous hard times still make you careful, regardless of no longer being stretched for cash.
The main thing is to acknowledge how lucky you are and not lecture to the young. Enjoy rather look for trouble. life is short, enjoy you little bit that's left.

Some of us aren't fortunate enough to even have grandchildren who can take up the slack for us when we eventually can't....... :(
