Some juvenile pranksters had small bottles of a liquid that smelled like rotten eggs. I suspect that it was liquid hydrogen sulfide (H2S), a dangerous chemical.

Just opening the cap in a small room would pervade the air with this terrible odor, and if you put a drop or two on the counter of a confectionary store or small corner grocery store, the patrons would run out of the store in short order, and the owners would go on a cussing streak. Meanwhile the pranksters would hightail it, laughing all the way.

Internet search revealed nothing regarding using H2S for pranks. All I know is that the guys referred to it as "Apple Blossom."
