One of the things that I have noticed about my dreams is that, while some of them are just kind of day-to-day dreams, other dreams seem to be pushing the boundaries of my imagination.
Mainly, I dream that I am moving either into a house, or out of one, and often it will be the same house from a few dreams back, and I recognize it somehow, even though it was only ever a “dream house” to begin with anyway.
So, when I have one of those imagination dreams, it is usually one that I can remember, and enjoy telling Bobby about over morning coffee.
As an example, one of the last interesting ones was about two hippopotamus playing in a swimming pool.
There was a river in my dream, about 30’ wide, and in the middle of the river was a large round cement wall with circular windows in the sides, and a door in the front (which I could not see from the side, but knew it was there).
Inside of the cement wall was the swimming pool, with sparkling blue water, and a much warmer temperature than the cold river; but I had to swim through the river to get to the swimming pool and swim.
As I was starting to swim out through the river to the pool, I could see a happy hippopotamus bouncing and playing in the water of the pool, and pretty soon there was a second one.
They were really having fun and cavorting around in the pool, and I was not sure if I wanted to go in the pool and swim with two happy hippos frolicking in there !
As I watched, both of them came out from the (hidden) door in the front of the pool, and bounced and played as they swam on down the river.
Now, I could have safely gone swimming in the pool, except for that right then was when I woke up ......

I said this somewhere in another tread but often my dreams are like watching a movie or reading a good book and if only I could remember the whole dream when I wake up...I'm sure they would make a good movie or book. :)

All my dreams seem to have a bit of stress attached to them.

When I remember a dream I usually awake feeling a bit of anxiety. In the dream I'm lost, trying to find my way home from a trip to the grocery store or a trip in the city. Have I made a wrong turn and where did I make it. Am I going north when I should be going the other way. I only live a coule of miles so how did I wind up in another city? I don't have enough money in my pocket to put gas in the car if I run out. I don't have my phone; I can't call anyone, they'll be wondering about me, which way should I go? Or,
I've lost my job, either fired or quit and realization sets in I have to find another really quick for I have no resources to caarry me very long and can not buy groceries and people are depending oon me. Yes that is frightening. I have to find a job, now. and I awake somewhat stressed out. Crazy, huh?

Well now @Bill Boggs I can certainly understand why you would wake up with some stress and anxiety with dreams like those.

The truth is I think many of us get that same stress and anxiety worrying about those same kinds of things you dream about when we are awake. :)

It sounds like to me that you may be taking some of your every day worries into your dreams at night too.

That's a very interesting dream @Yvonne Smith I don't have nightmares but my dreams tend to be strange and distorted and I don't really remember them much or at all after waking up. Probably because I think dreams are very strange and I don't like them so I don't think about them and then forget them quickly.

I'm fascinated when my cats twitch and make little noises in their sleep. What in the world does a cat dream about? I have to assume they are dreaming.
