Gee, January 7 used to be the fixed date for the celebration the Three Kings, a tradition observed by Catholics here that symbolizes the arrival of the magi to the manger. Just like Christmas on December 25 but a little lesser, gifts are also given by the adults to the children. I remember when I was a pre-schooler that we would be placing our shoes near the doorway so that the Three Kings would notice and thereby they would put money and treats. One time my father forgot that traditional gifts so I woke up in the morning with nothing in my shoes. And to comfort me, my father said that maybe the 3 kings did not relish the odor of my shoes.

From what I understand, Russians are mostly Catholics so I guess the celebration of Christmas is kind of solemn like what we do here although there is an abundance of food, not to mention there is gift for everyone.
