(read story) Officer James Givens has served with the Cincinnati Police Department for over 26 years, but has never quite experienced anything like this before. He was sitting in his patrol car in a parking lot when he got an unexpected visitor. A goose came up to his car and started pecking on the side of it. He threw food out for her, thinking that’s what she wanted, but she didn’t take it.......
Ha ha - are they ? I've never met a pheasant, although I'm sure they're very pleasant Just a little dumb - at least to some But who knows what lies beneath them feathers @Holly Saunders
From what I have read, we usually underestimate the intelligence of birds. We all know about how smart some birds are, such as parrots; but apparently chickens (and probably geese) are also much more intelligent than most people believe. Geese also make wonderful "guard dogs" because they are protective of their territory, and seem to be unafraid of attacking any invader. When my kids were little, we found a goose in the small creek that ran behind the house we rented. It took us at least an hour of following it up and down the freezing creek and through the snow (it was midwinter in Eastern Washington State) before we finally caught the goose , and when I finally had her in my arms, I could feel that she was starving, and not much more than skin and bones. We put her in the pen with the chickens, and she soon gained weight and seemed happy living with the chickens. When we moved , we took her along with the rest of our menagerie of critters, and since we had more room at the new house, she and the chickens could run around the yard free in the daytime, and put away safe from coyotes at night. The goose would go out whenever a vehicle come into the yard, with her head down and wings spread and hissing, and we had to shoo her away before anyone could get out of the car. She was fine with all of us, and never pecked anyone, and she seemed to be especially attached to my ex-husband (who cared less about her), and when he was underneath the car , working on something or just changing the oil, that goose would literally crawl under the car to keep him company. We had her a long time, and she was a great pet, and very smart. http://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/chickens-smarter-four-year-old-article-1.1428277
