Hello, I'm Roberta from Florida and I was reminsicing with a friend the other day… and we talked about how life used to be when we were younger and how everything was so much cheaper. I got so excited that I did a bit of research and the differences between then and now are really astounding (even though they exaggerate a bit there). Anyway I found this page and I thought you might find it useful as well. https://thedetailedhistory.com/20-examples-of-what-prices-used-to-be-back-in-the-60s/
Welcome @Roberta70 I didn't worry about prices to much in the 60's....to busy having good times back then.
I didn't worry much about things back then. However, sure wish there were computers back then. Even in the Navy, had to type out Purchase Orders and keep Inventory on 3 x 5 cards. The music of the 60's was ok, but the rock music of the 70's and 80's........love it!! Wife and I both like the "up-to-date" stuff of today.
Hi Roberta... I really enjoy looking back at things gone by and making comparisons..I can't believe you folks are paying $10 for a can of beer that can't be right surely? Anyway thanks for the link I've booked marked that..and welcome to the forum from London England...
Someone posted this question:.......What was the income in 1960’s VS. today? How many minutes of work did it take to buy that chocolate bar at $2 per hour VS. today’s $20 per hour? I agree. Things cost less but wages were a lot less, too. And, no, a can of beer doesn't cost $10.
sheesh I'm glad to hear it..$10 dollars didn't sound right to me... I wonder if it's $10 dollars in australia or somewhere lol..
I read a while ago that a dollar in 2012 was worth $0.18 in 1971 dollars--that is what inflation has taken away. I remember getting cheap beer in the 1970s for $1.09 for a six-pack! When Nixon removed the silver backing for the currency in 1972 making the dollar a true fiat currency, the value plummeted and has been going down in value ever since. I remember in the early 1950s, when my father (an engineer) made $8000 a year and our house cost $12,000 in suburban New York City! We were considered quite wealthy at that time.
