Dunno Sheldon. It shows that those of that era and region did indeed try to have everything packed for their afterlife journey as has been found to be true on other excavations.

My only question here which might fall in the food board is: why, since kefir is a liquid, was it stored in a cloth or canvas-like bag and then placed in a jar? I can see placing the starter in a bag but not so much the liquid. Perhaps I am remiss with my estimation of what the bag was made of.

My question is "What kind of glue did they use to hold the expiration label on?".

When I first saw the title of this thread, I thought perhaps someone had got into my fridge
in the garage at home. Where I keep my beer and snacks.

Don't have any '3,000 year old cheese', but I probably got some things in there that could make it
    on to the 'History Channel'!
