Does anyone control the weather? I want to speak to him. I don’t want Oklahoma to be another California, bone dry with the ground crusting like a dry lake bottom. Neither do I want to live in the tropics or have an annual monsoon season. I want it to stop raining. I got up early this morning and walked into the bathroom and peered out the shaded window. I couldn’t believe what I thought I saw. I looked again. Sure enough water running from the back yard along the side of the house like a small creek out of it’s banks. I’ve already had water up over my foundation, raising my floors, coming under and around an outside door into the garage like it was a natural waterway. When it rained I used to have three small ponds in my back yard, each catching and holding a little water until it evaporated naturally. Now it’s not three ponds but a lake, one solid lake. A large dove landed on the top of the steel pole that holds the bird feeder, looking for a place to land. The last time something like this happened, Noah was trying to beech the Ark. My driveway is under water. We have a rain gauge on the fence dividing the property line with my neighbor. We can’t tell how much rain we have had because we can’t get to it. We might not be able to tell if we could get to the gauge. I t may have filled up and run over, spilling who knows how much. They say it’s that low pressure system that came ashore in south Texas and crawled across that state into Oklahoma now. I’m ready for clear skies and sunshine. Rain, rain go away, come back this summer, after my grass is mowed and all the flowers and green things are needing water. We can’t use anymore now, we’re water logged. We’re not trapped in our house but we can’t leave without getting our feet wet. We’re not in danger of drowning but we don’t want to drown. But we’ve had rain for weeks. So who is in charge of the weather. I want to talk to him and tell him how bad those people out in California, in that big San Joaquin Valley and that San Fernando Valley, and in all those dry irrigation ditches out on the West Coast need water, and how all the Salman can’t get back to their native waters and creeks where they were born and lay their eggs and have another generation of little Salman. They need rain. And did he know how dry the Australia Outback is. Why if they had some of this rain periodically it could support a population the size of this whole country. Some of this rain on a timely basis would transform the whole of Australia into a giant breadbasket. Then there’s Nevada out there in the desert and Las Vegas who needs a bunch of water. We could share with them, gladly. Oklahoma is a poor state. We’ve got whole neighborhoods trapped by failed and washed out bridges. But being in charge of the weather I suppose you know how it is and don’t need to be told. I beseech you, give is a break from this rain, let us dry out, and warm our skins.
Here in the UK our weather is always unpredictable to those that spend vast amounts of money to predict it. Never in my life have I known any professional body of people (The Met bods) put so much effort into justifying their jobs as they do.
It is reallly too bad no one can figure out a way to harness this water to take it to other states. There is California about to dry out Nevad not fairing up much better and who knows how long Arizona has before it becomes part of the extreme drought conditions. Yet there are states like Texas and Oklahoma that have water then they know what to do with thanks to the extreme weath conditions. If only we could take this water and use it in the other states, but so far what is happening is most of it is being wasted. Its a sad situation that I wish we would come up with an answer for.
It has stopped raining for a few days now and things are getting a little dry. I have enjoyed these few days for no rain but it does look like it is about to start up again. My plants have been able to dry out and have been sitting outside again, they were brought in to keep from drowning from all of the rain. Thanks for the nice letter to the weatherman.
In this part of the northeast we have had some rather unusual cold weather in the evenings. When I drove out to work Thursday morning it was about 52 degrees and it almost looked like frost on the wet grass, the dew appeared white. The last three or four days have either been rain, cold or cooler but very humid. The bugs seem to love it. This morning they had the long range forecast up and we are suppose to get hot for the remainder of the summer into the early fall. This is troublesome to me because this could mean a slow down in the lake freezing over, and that usually means the potential for high snow fall totals early on in the winter. I know what you mean as far as the frustration goes at the weather, being in a region that does not get much sun to begin with I understand how people get depressed from the lack of sunlight and warmth. At least I have been spared having to feel guilty about doing things inside when it is so nice outside.
Weather forecast for Washington, D.C. : A large mass of hot air is stationary over the city. Humility is near zero but there is a 100% chance of prevarication. No change expected in the extended forecast.
