I've been working to learn about BP for decades and br oke down about 20 yrs ago and started
taking 2 BP meds, one old class and one not old and not new.

There was a time that I kept a journal of BP readings, daily...What I ate, what emotions etc.

    I went thru 2 machines.

Now, I know that BP can change every minute, every second, w hich foods one has eaten and one's emotions: meditation, loud talking, moving around, dreaming, and more. MOST never think these and probably keep looking for that engraved 120/80 from the medical industry....

I just had a telemed l5 minutes with doctor, as to stay with I have to be there now and then, or in contact as I was today. They charge Medicare for the 15 minutes.

This doc is pushing for me to come in for BP reading and heart check, I said I am fine. She asked me
if I have breathing issues, I said NO as I don't., I have no Issues. So now she's talking about an eventual nurse to my home to check these 2. I know my BP reading goes up when a doc gets involved, probably everyone does, and they know this. This too is Medicare paid.

I tell her I'm fine except I vent now and then about my body damage from 2010 hip replacement.

Just Venting and sharing maybe some info.

These swings are why diabetes is so bad, the two don't mix well as far as blood pressure goes. I knew a man that was about 70 and he had diabetes and when he would come in to the restaurant for coffee and to sit around with a bunch of us, he sometimes would experience a bad swing in the diabetes and he would take a finger tip of sugar and touch to his tongue and he would feel better. He was in pretty bad shape and had already gone with his wife to pick out his coffin. He came in one morning and told us his wife got even with him for being mean for years and she whupped him with the broom, heh

    "White Coat Hypertension", it's called.

Sit in the waiting room for an hour and then in a freezing exam room for another half hour wearing a paper towel and a healthy layer of goosebumps and they wonder why your blood pressure is elevated?

    Hmmmmphhh....

I don't have diabetes but when I saw blood sugar going up, via labs, my doc said it was fine to take Berberine and I did for a year and it came down very nicely, now some months later I take a capsule of Blood Sugar Manager by Nature's Way. This is for maintenance of Blood Sugar.

In recent yrs the doc's nurse would take BP shortly after I got to the waiting area and then often when I'm ready to leave the appt.

All of the above added to all that I read on line bring me to just about skipping all my "meds" and go "supplements" only, save my pain med.

Be Wise, don't be too hasty. If you have plans to do some changes, start with a tapering procedure. I still can't bring myself to getting off the BP meds I take now for over 20 yrs....

I heard yrs ago that once a doc gets a patient on BP meds, it could be a lifetime process...I worked so hard NOT to get on t hem in my later 60's... My parents both took BP meds for as long as I can recall.

After I got two teeth extracted, at the same time, my body went into a frenzy (no appetite/taste buds gone), lost 15 pounds in two weeks and wound up in ER/Hospital for a couple of days, my high BP was gone and I was off of two BP meds that I was taking.

But, now that I'm eating much better and, unfortunately, gaining some of the weight back that I lost, my BP has gone back up (Hypertension) in the last week or so. Before the teeth extraction, I was taking 25mg of Hydrochlorothiazide each morning and 100mg of Losartan in the evening to control my BP/Hypertension.

Well, I contacted my VA doctor and told him that I was going back on those two BP meds, that is, until I can possibly lose some weight. Eating good, to keep my sodium level up where it should be and keeping my eGFR (kidneys function level) up where it should be, it's very hard to lose weight.

Because of losing the weight that I did, my t-shirts were to big for me, as was my jeans, so we had to buy me all new t-shirts/jeans that wouldn't look like I was poured into them.

One way to guarantee weight loss is to keep White Foods out of your
mouth. We get plenty of carbs in a lot of veggies.

If I have stated this before, please forgive my repeating.

When I was told I was pre-diabetic, it was suggested that if I could lose just ten pounds ... it would make a huge difference . So I thought Ok, ya have to try. I cut back on my portions, and cut back on my beer. Nothing more, I do not have a strong sweet-tooth . Well, after two years I lost 60 pounds. I was really surprised that the weight came off ... relatively easily.

I became used to eating "that" way, & I really don't miss the extra beer.

I just wish it would have had a more profound affect on my blood sugar / A1C .

Metformin is another one of those I would really like to get off of.

Berberine did a great job on lowering my blood sugar for taking it a year. I don't have diabetes and don't want it. I HAD a friend who talked about her diabetes for years and she took every drug imaginable, and I remember when she really took CONTROL and made a huge change in what she ate, she took off weight and what a change.....but she
went back to her old ways. and she's gone now in her early 80's... she always talked about her family and how many had diabetes.

I've been off Berberine for a while but just went back on it and also take a supplement called Blood Sugar Manager... When I dropped all the sugar my labs showed 84 and the lab range is 65-99, when I took control I believe my sugar was 120 and I took control. I can always see 99 or 100 or 101 on sugar labs, but l20, no like that one..

    Berberine is pretty amazing:

I suggest you let a nurse come and check you out. Medicare should pay for it.

Thanks Ed, I know they will pay, but as I've said above I have studied the BP issue for so long and believe I'm just fine. My gut belief is strong on this one. But maybe later this year I'll do it to Please the doc. BP goes up and down and around all the time.

I know when the nurse would come in to my house to check, it would go UPPPPP.
