Remembering those who died serving/defending our country.

We are flying our large U.S. Flag on our patio, commemorating those that died. However, the city we live in isn't a "military thinking" city at all. No remembrance/celebrations scheduled. We also watched the Memorial Day Concert in Washington D.C. last night on PBS.

The young people in our complex can see our flag waving, but have no interest in thinking/remembering the real meaning of Memorial Day. BUT, that's just the way it is, on Memorial Day, Flag Day and Veteran's Day. As for us, we remember all three and PROUDLY fly our flag for each one.

All the towns around here are pretty patriotic. Each has those banners of former service people hanging on telephone poles on the main street. Many have parades too...not very elaborate; small town stuff, but it's a way of observing the day. I just came back from ours. My flags are stuck in the lawn out front.
