Well, just wanted to let all members know what happened to me.

As you already know, in the first of last month (March), I had two teeth extracted that were next to each other. After that extraction, my body went into some shock. Extremely weak and could barely eat anything. Lost 15 pounds in two weeks. Went back to dentist and he told me the extraction area was healing well, but slow (due to my age and being a Diabetic 2). If my weakness got worse, I should go to local ER. My VA doctor told me the same.

So, last Saturday AM my wife took me to the ER. I was told I was extremely dehydrated and started an IV. Then, after a couple of blood tests, ER doctor came in and told me my kidneys were failing and they had to admit me. Got a room and all set up. Spent the weekend in the hospital. They gave me seven IV’s, monitored my vitals and ultrasound on kidneys. Finally on Sunday AM I was getting better. Doctor told me my dehydration was gone and urine/blood looked good. I could possibly go home on Monday.

On Monday, the doctor told me he was going to discharge me. My wife came and got me.
In losing the 15 pounds, I no longer have high/hypertension blood pressure, so no more blood pressure meds. I can no longer take ibuprofen for pain. Only Tylenol. I have to walk with a cane, but body/leg strength coming back. Have ordered both fold-up walker and tub/shower chair from Amazon for possible future use, if needed.
I go back to hospital labs area tomorrow for blood/urine labs to be taken. Have an appointment with my VA doctor a week from tomorrow (Thursday) to discuss what happened to me.
Will my kidneys fully recover, don’t know. If not, will have to start dialysis in the future. Hope not, but?

Cody, I'm so sorry this happened to you. Did you just not drink enough fluids, to get so dehydrated, or were you sick at your stomach?

Sure hope your VA doctor has good news.

Wow, what an awful experience and i am so glad to hear that you are back out of the hospital again. It sounds like you just had an acute but temporary kidney failure, and if that is so, then it should go away once you are recovered.
If you have a chronic kidney failure, which is what I have, you should not need dialysis unless it gets past stage 4 kidney failure.
Even chronic kidney failure can be helped with a healthy lifestyle. I have had kidney failure for over 15 years, and mine has actually been holding its own and even getting better. My GFR was down in the low 30’s, and now it is around 47 the last time they checked. It should show what your GFR is on some of the information you got from the doctor and hospital, and on the labs you are getting tomorrow, so you can see where your level is at and how much it has improved.

It is good to have you back, and I have been worrying , not sure if you were just taking another break, or if there was a problem after the tooth extraction; and i am glad that you are now well enough to check in and let us know that you are recovering and feeling better again.

When bad things happen, some times a lot of good can come out of it.
If your blood pressure is in check again, perhaps with a healthier lifestyle you’ll get rid of the Type II and with that, better kidney function.

Just praying that you get a positive outlook on things and that everything will turn out well.

Glad to hear you're well enough to be released from the hospital. The Roll Call came up and your name was on the list. Welcome back.

I was wondering what was happening with you, @Cody Fousnaugh. Thanks for letting us know, and I am so sorry you're going through this. I'll pray your kidneys will recover, as kidneys aren't anything to mess with.

Don’t know necessarily what happened to me. All I know is that after the extractions, all I could eat was soft foods and only on the right side of my mouth. For a couple of days, I was ok on the “Soft Food” diet and then, basically lost all of my appetite. I thought I was drinking plenty of water, but that sure wasn’t the case. I was getting weaker and weaker by the day.
I’ll get the labs done tomorrow AM and go from there. Then I’ll see my VA doctor next week.

What I do know is that patient hospital food is extremely bland. I could hardly eat any of it. The nursing staff on both Saturday and Sunday were terrific, but definitely don’t want to go back in the hospital again.
When I was told that I was going to have to be admitted, it shocked and scared me. Thank God my wife was right there with me.

It’s now Wednesday and I’m doing much better, but definitely not up to par yet.

The trend appears to be that you are improving and that's good news. Like they say, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Keep going.

Awwww, Cody. I'm sorry you went through all that. I'm sure having two teeth out at once was a shock to your body. I wonder if you also got some kind of infection in that area. Just in case it did, you might suggest that the dentist start you on antibiotics a few days ahead of any future extractions.

I'm glad you are on the mend. Keep up the good work.
