I have a bothersome problem with my Chromebook laptop.
It sometimes shuts off the volume.
I will be watching a movie and the volume display shows up in the bottom right of the screen. Sometimes it then shuts off volume and sometimes not. PS: the cursor is nowhere near that triangle shaped icon in the bottom right of the screen.

Now, the only way to fix the problem is to keep clicking the LEFT arrow (at the top left of the screen) , until I have backtracked the movie until only the bottom work bar is showing. THEN, I click on the triangle volume icon and tap it to maximum. I can then go back to my movie.

One quick tip said that the sites open in other tabs might affect it, and to grab the tab containing the video into its own window. If you don't know how to do this, then try closing all the other tabs in the browser so the video is the only tab on it.

    Sounds like excellent advice.
Question: If I close other tabs, will that shut down (turn off) things like my membership in Amazon, gmail.com, etc etc?

I don't know what you mean by "Membership." Closing tabs is the same thing as closing your browser, one website at a time. Your browser Home Pages will all open the next time you shut down/open the browser.

Sorry if I'm using the wrong words/expressions. What i don't want to do by accident is to mess up my ability to open my emails or open up my account in Amazon etc etc.

I'm pretty confused on how to do what you were saying in your 1st reply.

    Let me try to clarify...

here is a sample browser bar that has several Tabs open:

    Browser tabs.jpg
    Left-to-right: YouTube...gMail...Walmart...Spotify search...Spotify

As I understand the issue with Chromebooks, any one of those might be accessing Sounds on your system and taking control all by themselves while you're watching your video. For some reason this does not happen if YouTube is in its own Browser Window. So the easiest thing to do is to drag the YouTube tab off of this Window and it will open up in a new Window as the only Tab. (I do not use Chromebook so cannot tell you how to do this.)

If you cannot figure out how to do drag a Tab to a new Window, your choices are to:

    (a) close all of the other tabs, leaving YouTube as the only one on that Browser Window
    (b) close Tabs one at a time until you find the one that's causing the issue
--HINT: in my example, Spotify is more likely to be controlling the sound than email or Walmart.
    (c) open up a second Browser Window and make YouTube the only tab in it.
--This allows you to keep the original Browser Window open with all the Tabs you want in it.

There was a different issue cited by MS Windows users who have apps that might recognize something as an Incoming Call. Those apps automatically decrease the volume on everything else when they think they see an Incoming Call so you can hear the Call. I do not know if (a) you have such an app open, or (b) if this happens on Chromebook. So I won't confuse things with a bunch of issues thrown out there all at once.

Ok. We apparently have completely different types of computers . I never see a work bar such as you have shown. Not once have I ever seen anything like that.
When i'm watching any show, all I ever see in the work bar is what I'm currently watching. Examples: Netflix OR Youtube OR seniorsonlyclub.

I really, really appreciate your help.

The concept is the same, if I understand the stuff I read.

Maybe someone with a Chromebook can tell you how to open YouTube in its own window.

I just use the Youtube app on my Chromebook, and I always make sure that I close any websites as soon as I am done there, if I am doing something that does not have an app.
The fewer websites a person has open, the more power can go into the one you are using. I learned that from my iPad, I always swipe up and close all of the apps and click the little X’s to close any open websites.
I use apps for almost everything on my Chromebook if it has an app, because it is easier for me than the websites.
