Owning acreage is better than having money in the bank or having gold. Real estate is about the only thing of real value these days.
Walking on the path and driving golfcart on it at times kills the undergrowth of the path. I do try to save trees from vines, which are the biggest killers of small and even huge trees. They cover and smother the small trees then kill the 100 year old oaks one limb at a time till the whole tree rots.
We only have two vines like that. I don't have so much land that they are a problem. Our headaches come from garlic mustard which kills off native undergrowth and buckthorn--both invasive speicies.
Here a tree the vines killed, [ after vines pretty much killed the tree, lightening struck it and cut it in half. These trees will look like the top one if vines stay on them much longer,
I was looking for someone to hire for this but It looks like it will be just daughter and me. Wish I still had an equine to haul the brush.
We use the riding mower or the old golf cart, still works good though, batters are expensive. We tie the rope to the pile and drag them to the field. Over the last 30 years I've saved many trees from vines. Myt donkey used to help me she was funny, she would just reach over a grab one now and then.
Things are greening up here now, and looking out the window I noticed a huge, beautiful treetop in middle of woods. I will give Jake walkie talkie and go check it out today. The top of this tree is really full and rounded very nicely. It's also time to vacuum and mop the floors, get out spring-summer clothes. Jake has lots of other things to do.
Marie, you've just wore me out reading this thread of yours, but well done girl, I wish I had your energy.
Thank you Bert, its not so much energy as it is like medicine, I have to push myself and sometimes I fail, also I really like the woods. except the bugs. They are bad again this year already.
