I looked at knitted slippers I have ...,a few days ago ,due to having my foot / lower leg in plaster due to my broken ankle, but they won’t go over the cast..to tight on top bit ..

The pair I have are 12 ply , a lady gave me when I was in Queensland in 2019 ..to this day I don’t know why she picked me to give them to ..

she was working in the tourist office and she was knitting them for selling , after we wandered around looking at leaflets / books on other tourist spots we may have been unaware of , she said would you like these I didn’t know her ........only issue I have with them they have a knot right on the ball of the foot part and in not sure how to fix it ,it’s to short of know to try adding any wool to to stitch it into slipper so it’s not right under foot.

I’ve been using a pair of socks to put on my plastered foot that hubby got from a hospital stay a couple of years ago that have rubbery nonslip bits on the bottom much like toddlers socks .

I have two possible ideas that might help, @Kate Ellery . An easy fix is to just turn the slipper inside out, then the knot is on the inside. Not sure if that will help or not, but it stops it from flapping or catching on something.

There seems to be at least 2 knots in the picture. The first one has little ends, and if you use a crochet hook, you can easily weave those ends into the other stitches.
The second knot (the red one) makes no sense to me, and I do not know why she put that kind of a knot into the slippers in the first place. Anyway, if you can undo the knot , pull it a little bit to have a little more ends, then tie it into a regular square knot (like the blue/white one), and then you can weave in the ends with a crochet hook, just like the other one.
    A 12-ply yarn must be huge !
I usually make slippers with leftover yarn from other project, because slippers can be colorful and do not need to match, and I use 2 strands of 4-ply yarn and about a size 6-7 needles. The larger needles you use, the larger slipper you will get.

For adult size slippers, cast on 29 stitches, and work 19 rows (knit back and forth) and 19 ridges (k1, p1) all the way across. For the rows, knit 9, perl 1, knit 9, perl 1, knit the last 9 stitches.
The next row, knit straight across. At the .end of the rows, you will have a border for the soles.

For the ridges, just knit/perl across, making sure that it forms the ridges. After 17 ridges, the next 2 rows, you knit 1, knit 2 together, which decreases the stitches.
Then , thread the yarn through the stitches remaining, slide off the needle, and pull it tight , to make the toe of the sock. Sew up the top front of the ridges, and also sew the heel.

You can change the number of stitches to make different sizes of slippers, just make sure that it is a multiple of 3, plus the two stitches for the border of the sole. For little kids, use smaller needles if necessary, or even just one strand of yarn.

I will take a better photo @Yvonne Smith from memory she was knitting 2 balls of wool together so they would prob be more than 12 ply more like 16 ...(2 balls of 8ply )
I try tackling as you suggested today ,I have crochet hooks in various sizes ..,I’ve made the cotton face washes I posted in response to Sylvia’s request but I prefer knitting them ...cause I think they are not as dense therefore softer

I have stashed my knitting paraphernalia as it was an exercise in futility. :p I have discovered that I enjoy crochet again, though. I've been practicing that and will find some simple patterns to occupy myself.

It is winter again, and the time that I get out the knitting and crocheting pattern books and look for interesting (and fairly easy) projects. This is the first time that I have tried a really lacy pattern, but I made a pretty toilet seat cover that looks kind of like a doily . We recently got a pretty shower curtain, so I made the seat cover in a matching shade, and then crocheted one of the plarn rugs to put beside the shower.

Most of my knitting pattern books are ones that I have had since way back in the 1960’s when I first learned how to knit and crochet from my English mother-in-law.
This one , you can see, was colored on by my oldest son back when he was a toddler, and the price was a whole 29 cents !

I had yarn left over after I made the seat cover and throw rug for the bathroom, so next I made a pair of socks, and had enough yarn still for a pair of slippers, which I am knitting right now.
I am going to send them to my friend in Idaho because they are having such a cold winter, and it will help her to keep her feet warm.
