    Great pictures, @Kate Ellery .
It's too early for snow, Steve. Do you have your snow flower seeds ready to plant.

I took some pictures of our bear hunt last weekend. They are in Photos and videos." We're going on a bear hunt." Y'all take a look.

I made fish for supper tonight on the stovetop.. Obviously I had the exhaust fan on over the stove..
We were sitting eating supper and we noticed a black bear on our patio right up to the glass sliding door which is off the kitchen.. It wasn't the biggest bear, about 150 pounds, but still, a bear up to the door.. it must of smelled the exhaust of the fish cooking..
Well, my dearest wife always has a loud whistle around her neck to scare off the bears when she is outside and still had it around her neck, opened up the sliding patio door just an inch and blew the whistle.. The bear ran away.. She had the whistle because she was working in the garden before supper..
Now, if she didn't have her whistle on her, the other option is to yell as loud as you can at the bear, but don't wave your arms as they think they are being attacked and will retaliate..
We both have bear whistles whenever we go out to the back yard.. Our 6 pound Pomeranian is NEVER off a leash, however we do let her run free during the day if both of us are there..
The bears are hungry and there is little for them to eat in the forest.. They have eaten all the berries..
If the bear becomes a nuisance and starts destroying houses or threatening, we will shoot it without a second thought, but if it is only looking for food, let it go.. This bear was just going after the smell of my fish hoping for a meal.. Bears are very common in our back yard as well as the area..

We did a 5 km walk yesterday it was so windy / cold the wind almost blew me over several times
This is normally a very quiet Bay Area of the sea ..3 min walk from home .

Lots of seaweed on beach from the violent winds we’ve had

That bear I told you about a few days ago (a few posts ago) came back last night.. Again it smelled my supper cooking and was looking for food.. This time it left on its own without any yelling or whistles, mind you it took quite a few minutes for it to finally go.. It isn't a cub, but a full grown black bear weighing well over 200 pounds if not close to 250 pounds..
We do have a school not far from my house and if it persists on being a nuisance, we will have no option but to drop it.. The safety of our children comes first.. It won't be the first or last bear we drop in our area.. Actually, bear hunting opens up in a few weeks and if it is still around, there is a good reason to drop it.....
This week it is partridge and moose hunting...……………….

Steve, who shoots the bear? Who cleans it? Does everyone share the meat? What happens to the skin?

When a bear is dropped and It isn't hunting season, we drag it into the woods with our ATV (all terrain vehicle) by tying a chain around its neck and let the other wild animals have a feast..
When it is hunting season, usually the meat is divided up among those that are in the hunting party.. if there is any left over, it is given away to one that will appreciate it like me.. Many make sausages out of the scrap ends of meat.. bear sausages are a real delicacy and are delicious..
As far as cleaning it, many around here know how to do it.. The insides are buried or left for the animals to eat.. The skin as well.. Usually the bear fur is loaded with ticks and other bugs..
Personally, I like bear meat but I don't get it very often.. I put it in the slow cooker with veggies, herbs and spices and it is glorious, tasty, tender and areal treat...……

Most wild animals up here are loaded with ticks and fleas.. It isn't concerning as we take it for granted.. After all, they are wild and live in the forest.. Even the chipmunks and squirrels are that way.. The long hair animals are a bit worse..
