Not my cup of tea at all - we all have different tastes but I would be concerned if this one was 'missed'
The same with Alf Garnet - you needed ear plugs for that one
I like subtle comedy with a touch of genius

Oh, well get this... HBO removed Gone With the Wind from their offerings. Can you believe it????

"Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right."-- George Orwell

So people of colour want to erase history ? They should not - their forefathers should never be forgotten
What about people that strived for change - if you wipe the history you have to wipe out the struggle too

I don't believe it's people of color pushing this agenda; I believe it is the pandering liberals. And you are exactly right... people need to remember the struggle, always.

I absolutely agree, @Beth Gallagher , this whole thing has NOTHING to do with people’s color, and everything to do with controlling and misleading people, of every race, creed, and color.
This is the time when we most of all need to work together; and left to our own devices, most people would do just that, because we are not race-sensitive, of any race being dominant.
Our history is being erased and changed, but it is the history of all people, and being changed from way higher up than what we can see it happening.

People that strived for change would include those that wanted to break up the Union prior to and during the Civil War here. Can we even agree that was not a great idea? . Probably not.. :D

The statues will likely not be destroyed, just not prominently displayed "in your face." Let these heroes be enshrined in the encyclopedias instead.

Granted it gets more attention to display quick knee-jerk outrage, but it's detrimental to your health to be in a constant state of outrage, imo. I always try to put myself in someone else's shoes first. It's hard sometimes being white.

Suppose we had erected statues of these five US Anti-suffrage leaders. They knew their place. :)

We did finally get the right to vote... however ... suppose women lived mostly in certain voting districts. Do you not think there would be an effort to suppress voter turnout targeting those districts if it were politically beneficial?

Would I feel like a second class citizen driving past those stone ladies every day? Yes.

(Mrs. George Phillips, Mrs. K.B. Lapham, Miss Burham, Mrs. Evertt P. Wheeler and Mrs. John A. Church at an anti-suffrage event on the Hudson River, May 30, 1913.)

My point was that no amount of white-washing of facts, burning of books, dismantling statues, censoring movies, etc. will change history. If you feel the anti-suffragettes need a statue then start a petition. I honesty had no idea who they were. And personally, I never feel like a second-class citizen when driving by any statue.

And my point was, try to put yourself in another person's shoes. It's not as easy as you think. My example was whimsical. And don't search for things to get outraged over unless they're worth it.

Put yourself in my shoes; I'm not outraged.

I think the statues should have come down years ago and put in a museum, which seems to be the idea now
But, its gone over the top as usual and I'm sick of listening to idiots

Frankly I have no idea WHY any statue causes such commotion. I see statues every day and don't even know who they are or what they represent. I don't get all butt-hurt over them if they are commemorating someone/something that was not to my liking. I suppose it's just a matter of time until all traces of George Washington will be purged from the history books because he owned slaves. Those terrible men who started this country in the first place can be swept under the carpet in the name of political correctness.
