I go back to when he was with the First Edition. We have his movie, The Gambler Returns/Luck of the Draw that has numerous old-time spaghetti western stars in it, like Doug McClure and Chuck Connors. Have the song, Islands In The Stream that he and Dolly done together. Love that song. Kenny will be missed. RIP, Kenny.
Me too. I like What Condition My Condition Was In and Ruby. . His voice reminded me of Michael McDonald. Wish he had stuck with rock.
RIP Kenny Rogers Through the Years, right here with you, Mr. Kenny xxxxx I am one of his fans. Not to mention, we have "Kenny Rogers Roasters" restaurants here.
I always enjoyed listening to Kenny Rogers songs also, and it is hard to actually pick a favorite. However, one of his songs will always have that special place in my mind and my heart, and that is his song, Lucille. When it first came out, my kids were still small children, and my daughter, Robin, mis-heard one of the words, and it changed the whole song for us. We have sang this song as a family often (at least the chorus part), and we always sing it with Robin’s version, which made so much sense to her when she was little. Instead of “four hungry children” , Robin would sing “four hundred children and a crop in the field”. I am sure that she totally envisioned that whole group of kids at home , waiting for their mother to come back......
I was lucky enough to be able to take in one of his concerts about 25 years ago. . Will never forget that, or his life's music. was and always will be a big fan.
As a teen, I remember Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. I think it was sort of a light rock, although I'm not sure what it would be called. As I recall, I thought they were okay but I wouldn't have bought any of their albums. Then, to my recollection, they faded away, as a lot of bands did, and it was a long time later that I realized that the Kenny Rogers who was doing country music was the same guy. It seemed to me that he had lost his career in rock, then reinvented himself as a country singer, but it could well be that I hadn't noticed him as a country singer because I didn't make a point of listing to country music.
