I taught a few weekend, and a couple of week-long EMS classes in Junction, a few towns northwest of Kerrville. There is a Texas Tech campus in Junction that seemed to be empty or near empty much of the year. I know when I taught classes there, we stayed in a dorm and I don't remember seeing more than a few people who weren't in our group. It was a beautiful area. There's a river that runs past the campus, and we'd have someone drop us off several miles north of Junction in a canoe or kayak, and go downstream to the campus. I found out that I wasn't nearly as good in a canoe as I had been in my teens since I tipped it over within two minutes of getting in it. Still, it was fun, and I think that's a very nice area to be in. Of course, I wasn't looking for senior activities then, so I don't know what there might be.

Are you looking for BLM or other boondocking? There are many really nice RV parks/campgrounds in the Kerrville/Hill Country areas but I don't know about boondocking. There is also a huge snowbird community in the RGV (Rio Grande Valley) but that's not boondocking that I'm aware of. There is also an Escapees facility in Livingston but of course that's restricted to Escapee members. They have plenty of advice on Texas domicile for full-time RVers, though.

You'd probably get better responses to your questions on RV-specific forums or on the Escapees website.

We ended up in Mesa in August several years ago. I know, I know, WHAT WERE WE THINKING? First clue was pulling into the massive 1300-space RV park and there were only about 10 other RVs there. Talk about a ghost town...….. At least it was cheap that time of year. There was absolutely nothing happening in the park that summer but from what I could tell, that place HOPPED in the winter.

That is surprising, Mary. Many years ago, I had friends move from NJ to Mesa and they loved it. Used to send me pictures of the place and it seemed like it was a fairly well populated area with well kept homes and streets. What happened? Lost contact with the family after parents died, so had no idea since I am not too familiar with that state. My sister lives there in a place called Sun Tan Valley which I have never heard of nor visited.

My snowbird activities have consisted only on a few occasions of visiting friends in Palm Beach for a month, usually January, and Agadir, Morocco, usually in the months of Feb./March. Haven't done this for over 10 yrs. however.

I'm sure when the 'birds flock back around November Mesa perks up but even downtown was dead in August. Scottsdale was lively, though.

We have seen a lot of people RVing with cats. Some walk them on leashes. Some bring them outdoors in large cages. Some of the cats seem perfectly happy perched in a window observing life go by.
