A bank I used formerly started charging $5 for paper statements in the mail so I took all my money out and deposited it in a bank with free paper statements. Now they want $5 too. I'm trying to avoid online banking but feel I'm being forced into it.

I still get paper statements for free. I don't want my bank account number online.

No, we have no need of paper statements any longer. We do all our banking online.

Over here it all depends on the bank. For the vast majority of them the trend clearly is toward charging customers for everything especially those customers who keep clear of online banking.
Some online banks will charge you for paper statements, others will offer those for free but will charge you for other services. So the choice of who to bank with is as individual as a fingerprint.
I personally get my balances as paper statements from some banks (for free) and get them electronically from other banks also for free.

I still get free statements but can look at my stuff on-line and pay on-line if I want. At my age I, and I know there are older ones here, know that I won't have internet forever.

Most everything we have, financially, we get paper statements for.

We get a hard copy once a month. We are not charged for it, but then we use a Credit Union not a bank. Almost all of our business is done online. We pay our school and property taxes and our Dr's. copay by check but that is about it. We get facsimile copies of the checks we do write with the statement.

I still get paper statements. The bank stopped returning paper checks years ago unless you paid to have them returned. The statement includes a photocopy of my checks. Actually, about the only check I write is one for my credit card each month. I put everything I buy on my credit card, including insurance, dentist visits, everything.

As far as having your banking information online, the bank already has all that online.

I have done online banking since it first started in the 80's. I get my paper statements by simply down loading them from the bank and then printing them out on my printer.I pay bills, send checks etc. all through on line banking. I don't need or use stamps and envelopes and don't write checks.I use a credit card and a debit card that require monetary trans actions. I have never had a problem with on line banking and love it.

We had an event Friday that knocked out the internet for a large area on the East coast. I went to get my usual Friday night subs at Subway and they said they were on cash only. But since I was a regular they would let me pay when the internet was back up. Paid bill yesterday. Like Shirley I buy everything I can with a card(get cash back on it). So I write 2 checks a month. 1 goes to church and second goes for electricity. I could charge/debit electric but the add a 15% surcharge.

We have several bills that "auto-pay", including utilities and semi-annual auto insurance. I use my rewards Visa for paying many of our monthly expenses which reaps a tidy sum in rewards $$.

Our utility company has the same credit/debit use charge. I have no idea why. However, we can pay online with a check by putting in the routing and account number on our 'profile' page. Paying with a check like that is free. Maybe check on their website or give them a call to see if you have that option.

I use online banking only. I only go to the bank if I'm depositing cash and really like being able to do that on the ATM machine outside. The only check I write is for rent. Everything else is paid online.
