Who remembers going to the local seafood shop and walking out with a huge piece of fish and chips (fries) wrapped in old newspaper. You dug a hole in the top of the package and munched away. We often had take away fish & chips for a quick, healthy and easy family dinner too. Still do.

We still do it now... In fact yesterday lunchtime I had a bag of chips from the chippy, when I went out to pick up some supplies!! I wasn't hungry but the smell of those chips were irresistible..I only ate about 8 chips in fact , it's all too much for me, you could feed 4 people on one portion now... .

In the USA, you'd be more likely to remember a hamburger or pizza joint. The fish and chips shops were few and far between, and non-existent in the area where I grew up.

The only place I experienced the fish n' chips English style was in Singapore when the Brits were still pretty much in charge there. It was great, but never before or since.

I really miss fish and chips remembering when I was a boy. They kind of ruined it for me when they switch from cooking in lard to oil never was the same.
