Magnesium Deficiency, Most Of Us Have This Problem

    I eat Lots of things with magnesium so maybe I'm not deficient.

    Trying to figure out which magnesium to get was causing more anxiety than anything, lol.

    I just can't deal with all the different info on everything depending on who you talk to....not for me.

    Just the way I am....doesn't mean others have to be that way.

    I giggled at that, cos I'm the same, drives me crazy and it was the reason I gave up with Mag
    Then, when Yvonne mentioned it again I thought I'd take another look as I'd had a long break from looking :p
    I spotted one I hadn't heard of, the benefits seemed the same but a couple of reviews said it was better on the tummy
    unlike others they'd tried so - I got it !

    That link that Yvonne posted from the woman doctor (who was skeptical about the magnesium until she saw marked improvements in her patients) mentioned that digestive upset with magnesium supplements is a sign of deficiency. I don't know if that is true or not. As I said before, supplements should usually be taken with food. Perhaps fewer side effects with the oxide form is because it IS less available, so the absorption is slower. I have no trouble with it, and have noticed an improvement in cramping and better sleep, so I take it. My wife has trouble swallowing pills, so she seldom takes it even though she, too, sees some improvement. I will order some of the spray oil that Terry endorses for her with my next Amazon order and see if that works for her.

    I've been researching and working with magnesium for probably 15 yrs or more. I've found it's even more important than loading our bodies with calcium tabs. I count on my calcium and strong bones with magnesium, foods and D3/K2.

    It's sad the MD's don't address this important mineral, but I don't think too many do, they hardly have time to do anything when one visits them.

    A couple friends ended up with Afib a few years ago and we've all realized they were not taking adequate magnesium in their bodies. You can read up on this one too. Mag and heart health.

    The second link I believe is the more important one. We take Magnesium Citrate daily, and it is far from the least expensive. My readings have indicated that overall, it is the best compound of Magnesium in general.

    @Joy Martin we had a discussion on magnesium a while ago, and one of our members, @Terry Page is a big advocate for topical application. My wife uses the topical, while I, like @Frank Sanoica take magnesium citrate as a supplement. You are a person after my heart with the D3/K2 combination. I find it helps me to sleep and relieves muscle cramping as well as perhaps other benefits. I don't agree with the author as to the toxicity of glutamic and aspartic acids however. They are both amino acids that our bodies can manufacture and are necessary for protein synthesis and other functions. One must always use them from natural sources, however, and not synthetic...there's the rub.

    On the advice of a friend, I once tried taking magnesium for my health. After about a week or so, it made my heart go crazy! My heart occasionally skips beats. It has as far back as I can remember. It's nothing to worry about. The magnesium had it skipping so badly that I went to the emergency room. I stopped taking the magnesium and in a few days, my heartbeat was back to normal. It's supposed to be good for your heart but it was certainly not good for mine.

    I've used so many types of magnesium and the oil sprays but don't anymore, found for one thing it burned my skin. Even diluting it some.

    Some others have talked about more anxiety with taking mag. And all I've read is how important for cardio health. Every body's different. Back in about 2005 I ended up with what they said in the ER a panic attack. Went home with lorazepam and everything calmed down and not come up again. I don't believe I was taking much mag if any back in 2005...

    I have never heard of anyone having problems with Mg other than some have digestive issues with some types. I could understand a burning sensation on the skin. I wonder what caused the anxiety or whatever reaction, @Shirley Martin? Have you ever had a similar reaction with any other supplement?

    The only thing I can think that may have triggered the attack is that my daughter was going thru HAIL in her marriage and it could have been affecting me or maybe I was not getting enough Mag in my body....

    It's never happened again and no other supps have caused problems.

    And I've found over the years that benzos and even benadryl can lead to more memory loss issues. I no longer take any lorazepam. You can find info on this just google.

    My erratic heartbeat wasn't caused by anxiety. It was a physical reaction to the magnesium. I don't know why it caused my heart to beat erratically. I Googled magnesium and heart afterward and read that too much can harm the heart. I eat a healthy diet so it may be that I already had enough of it in my body.

    Yes @Don Alaska Magnesium was a real life changer for me, since I started taking it topically my energy levels rose dramatically, as well as a lifting of my mood. I think I have been magnesium deficient my whole life, needing dozes during the day since early childhood right through to the time I started on the magnesium. I have never needed or had a doze since, it literally transformed the way I live.

    I make my own oil by adding Magnesium Chloride flakes to boiled distilled water 50/50, soaking both feet using a sprayer and leaving for around 20 minutes, before washing my feet, I don't get any problems except for a skin drying effect at times. I do this twice a week and it takes around 24 hours for the effect to be felt. If I leave it off for longer than a week, my moods become gloomy and my energy drops dramatically.

    The whole family use this method and my eldest daughter Caroline experiences the same effects as I do, my other daughter Cathy less so but takes it as a preventative, Lisa doesn't feel any effect, so I guess we are all different.

    I do find you can overdose on it and become quite buzzy with energy which can prevent me from sleeping. Funnily enough I took it to help with sleeping through the night originally, but it didn't really help.

    I tried all the supplements which didn't work for me or upset my digestive system, I am always loathe to take supplements orally because I feel a lot of the ingredients can be destroyed in the digestive process, plus the side effects that can be caused to the system. I have tried again recently to take mag citrate tablets because it would be simpler than taking topical magnesium when travelling, but sadly they don't work :(
