I like good food but never ever thought that eating and meals could be the highlight of my week. I absolutely look forward to the three quality meals per day that are included in my monthly rent payment. The menu and preparation is provided by a well paid Executive Chef. I find it hard to believe that I have not gained one single pound since moving here, in fact. I weigh 30 lbs less than I did 5 years ago. There are other Highlights of my week that occur un expectedly, like when I meet a new person at my meal table that I can hear and converse with despite my hearing problem. That person is usually a female.
Except for weeks at one of our timeshares, trips to Washington D.C., or elsewhere, one day is pretty much the same as another. That sounds sad, but it's not. Now that I work online, at my own pace, a Saturday is no different than a Tuesday.
The highlights for me are usually a message or phone call from one of our kids/grandkids. Today my son sent me a beautiful arrangement of spring tulips delivered earlier...such a nice surprise and definitely a "highlight."
I agree; we like our quiet lives, too. My husband seems to be "out and about" more than I, but that works for us. He checks on his mother several times a week, does maintenance around her house and takes care of her finances. He also has a weekly dominoes game with friends. I prefer to piddle around my house and garden, and occasionally go out for dinner. A quiet life is what I love.
@Beth Gallagher Your personal description of yourself suggests that, if you come to be left alone, an endless stream of guys will come calling....... Frank
Hmmmm, I'm afraid I don't see any lines forming, Frank. (Which is fine with me; if by chance I'm ever left alone I'd prefer to remain so.)
I don't have a highlight per se... except at the moment I do have weekly physiotherapy on my knee which relieves the pain for a few days, so I could count that as a highlight. Having retired fairly recently, I'm still enjoying just doing whatever I fancy each day.. ..
I would have never believed that food would be the highlight of my week as it now is. I am furnished with a weeks meal menu with the specifics of each breakfast, lunch & dinner choices. The Gourmet Chef prepared food is included as a part of my rent and is excellent. I would think that I should have gained considerable weight since moving into this Assisted Living Facility, but not so. I am quite skinny at 6 ft. 4 and weigh what I did as a skinny high school senior. My breakfast this morning was a bowl of fresh mixed berries, Eggs Benedict, prune juice & coffee.
I do not believe, no matter what you say, that they are giving you enough calories. Don't argue- I've seen your meal photos . 3 spears of asparagus, indeed! They need to give you bigger portions, you're 6 ft 4 in, for gosh sake!
I am not limited to portion size and can have any size I want. Pictures that I post are just for illustration.
@Ruby Begonia I could donate half of all my own portions to him, as a way to lose some weight, if only I had the will! Frank
