It’s a given that people will do some strange things and it’s not just other people because we all do, but thwarting one’s own ability to hold onto a buck is one of the strangest things there is.

“Ya just can’t stand prosperity” my dad would say on nearly every Monday to a few men who would come for pay advances after they had just been paid in full on the previous Friday.
When I worked with my dad in South Florida, there were a few major construction jobs that took place out of town. The motel and food was all paid for and dad paid almost all of the men above union scale on each and every Friday and in cash.
The only problem with that is that many men would stay in town and at the motel (again, it was free to them) and spend their money in bars and strip clubs instead of saving for a new tool or just enhancing their bank account for a rainy day.
By Monday, about 1/3 of the work force would be dead broke and couldn’t even buy a pack of cigarettes hence waiting in line for a draw.
It just seemed like these guys hated to have money in their pockets.
Kinda like the folks who win a major lottery and are broke a couple of years later. Strange.

Now, the above example isn’t the only thing that I can pinpoint because sometimes other people wish to take our prosperity and spend it on uh....whatever.
Since unemployment is at a very comfortable ratio now and businesses are hiring more people (tax payers), some states like Alabama,, Maine, California and a few others have decided that their population is simply too prosperous so they’ve decided to tax a few more things just for kicks and giggles.
Never mind that folks will take their small windfalls and buy more “stuff” from the local merchants which is already taxed to death, but another tax on fuel is just what the doctor ordered to keep the constituents broke.

Just to be clear though, money isn’t the only thing that some people can’t stand to be in a state of prosperity with.
    How about a little peace?
After the Mueller report came out, we who are of the more conservative nature, thought that we could finally say, “that’s it, let’s take a break and now maybe congress can get something productive going”. Nope! Not so. Instead of just shutting up and giving everyone a moment’s peace, there are those who just can’t stand that kind of prosperity so they are getting busy stirring the pot even more than ever.

In short, whether or not we as individuals have figured out how to keep a couple of bucks in our back pockets and strive for just a little bit of peace and suffer from only a lack of turmoil, there’s always someone around the corner who will intentionally make sure that that doesn’t happen.
They just can’t stand prosperity in any form.

The Mueller report - had it been worded in a totally direct way, I wonder how many pages it would have been.
Straightforward and to the point doesn't get people what they want

Congress will be having another "Performance," this time with Mueller.
They make such fools of themselves, they waste people's time and basically accomplish nothing except for fining banks for things that someone up the ladder should do serious jail time for; the fines are all paid eventually by the customers, not much of a deterrent to the bankers' crimes.

Stirring the pot - always about manipulation and control.

@Bobby Cole as to the first part of your post, we see that all the time up here, not only in the construction trades but also in the oil field workers. Some of the slope workers earn $130,000 to $150,000 a year and work for 20 or more years. At the end of their work years, they end up with nothing. Many of them rent homes and do not put anything into the 401Ks that are offered them which are matched up to 10% or more of their pay. They have fancy trucks and fancy snowmobiles and 4-wheelers, and many have motor homes, but other than that they have nothing. It is sad.

On the second part of your post, the Mueller team consisted of 12 lawyers (I think) who were enemies of Trump. There isn't a politician in Washington that could stand up to the scrutiny undergone by Trump. Although they found nothing as far as criminal conduct, they had to word their report so that their friends could use it somehow to continue the attacks. People are ignorant and don't understand that, in our system, investigators do not "exonerate" those investigated--that is for the judge and jury in some form--but just find evidence to present for indictment or not. A grand jury takes the findings of the investigators and decides whether it it sufficient to indict, i.e., agree with the prosecutors, or not. This entire thing is the appeal to the ignorant, which is their base. I suspect they are trying to extend the accusations into thee election cycle and to perhaps avoid the investigators themselves. The results of the IG (Justice Department) and the investigation out of the US Attorney in Utah have yet to be released. We will see what they find. They will stay on offense because they have no defense.
