    Tom, I'm surprised that defending yourself against a home invader is now a criminal offense in Canada. The charges against that homeowner seem ridiculous to me, but then I live in Texas and we have a Stand Your Ground law.

    I am not really surprised. It probably varies by province just as it does by state here in the U.S. You are much more likely to be accused like this in Connecticut or Massachusetts than in Texas or Alaska. In Hawaii, it is illegal to own most guns, so if a criminal carrying one breaks into your house and you fire on him, you are both going to jail, probably for the same amount of time.
