I think either the charging port on my (Android) smartphone, or the plug in on the USB cable, is shot. Although the phone will eventually charge, the connection keeps breaking and reconnecting so frequently you don't have time to bring up the folder on the phone containing photo images.

Before I go out and buy a new cable hookup, or get a new phone, I'd like to try transferring these image files wirelessly to my PC.

I'm sitting here with nothing else to do right now. LOL. Searching the internet, it seems you need to download an APPlication to do this.

Is there any way to do such a transfer over WIFI without an app?

If not, does anyone know a good app?

I'd prefer software you download to the PC, rather than to the phone if that's possible. I have Windows 10. Never had much luck downloading any apps to the phone, but I'm willing to try it again.

I hope this makes sense. :(

I don't use WiFi, I simply use a usb cable, from my phone to my computer usb. Make sure your phone is on, meaning you see your icons/1st page. I download all of my iPhone photos by way of Windows 10 Photos and "Import". Select all or partial of the photos you want to put on your computer.

I also use Wondershare for putting photos on my iPhone from the computer.

That is useful information. However that operates on your set up, there may be something equivalent for mine. I bet you have some kind of application. Will keep looking. Thanks.

    Cody, something like this:

Transfer files between PC and Android: Wi-Fi network
"The best way to transfer files between your PC and Android is to send them over a shared wireless network. There are many apps you can use for this, but our favourite is Filedrop." .. Source

Just thought someone here might be able to recommend a good app, rather than pick one myself based on reviews. (Or maybe there is another way, like you used to be able to do things using DOS commands, lol)

I don't have any app.. it's simply that I have an Apple Mac computer, and an Apple iphone which means that they're synched together. I can even take a picture using my Iphone anywhere in the world and it will be uploaded to my computer when I arrive home..

Just had a thought Nancy...given that android operating system is developed by google, doesn't that mean that the pics from your phone would automatically be uploaded to google photos..?

I was actually thinking along those same lines as you, Holly. LIke you, everything I have is Apple, so it is always all there on every Apple device that I have; but I also have an account with several photo storage places online, like Flickr and Amazon Photos.
If Nancy gets the google photo app for her phone, she should be able to transfer everything into the cloud wirelessly, and then if she has the same app on her computer, she would have the photos there as well.

Probably some of the guys here that are all tech-savvy will have suggestions for you, too, @Nancy Hart . Good luck with getting them transfered.

@Yvonne Smith and @Holly Saunders: Thanks. I'm looking into it right now. Finally being forced to learn about Cloud. :( I assumed Cloud was something you had to pay for. Maybe it is. Guess I'll know soon. Sorry for being so far behind on this stuff.

I don't think the cloud is something that necessarily costs money, but you should be able to sync your phone with your Windows 10 computer. You have to download an app to the phone, however, then allow your phone to syc with the computer. You can ask the Microsoft Community how to do it if you can't figure it out. I don't think it is as smooth as the Apple system, but I believe it works.

I'm working at it right now. I remember trying to download an app long ago and getting stuck and giving up. I get stuck on the very first steps, just logging into the proper accounts, with the right passwords. I may not even have created the proper accounts.

Confused about why I had to log into Gmail, and now it wants me to log in to Google. (I'm just mumbling to myself. Pay no attention.) I'll figure it out, eventually, if I have enough time. I think.

Not sure this will help, but here's what I do to put my photos on my PC from my phone.
    ( Sorry, there's an App involved )

    1. Take a picture on my phone and it is saved to the app ( Flickr ).
    2. When I connect to wifi, it is automatically uploaded to the 'cloud' on my Flickr account.
    3. I go to the Flickr web site on my PC, look at the pictures and decide which ones to 'copy' to
    my hard drive.

A few extra steps, but it works for me.

Nice thing is that it's free and you get up to 1 TB of storage on the 'cloud'.

And no wires to connect. ( a plus for me, always trashing those charging cables...)

Hope you find a good way that works for you.

I found a method I thought I understood. It first required downloading the Google Play Store app. That took me 2 hours. Now I forgot what I was supposed to do with it when I got it. Time for a break. :(:oops:o_O:p

Nancy, if your phone will still charge, then the charging port should still be okay; so you probably just need a different usb cable. You might have some around your house (if you are like us); but if not, Walmart or dollar store will have new ones for you. That should just fix the whole problem, and no more headaches.
