Well of course we measure in chains and perches so what do you expect ;)

The rod or perch or pole is a surveyor’s tool and unit of length exactly equal to 5 1⁄2yards, 161⁄2feet, 1⁄320 of a statute mile or one-fourth of a surveyor's chain (approximately 5.0292 meters). The rod is useful as a unit of length because whole number multiples of it can form one acre of square measure.

I worked in a scientific field, was in weather for a while, and I live in American society, so I can function in all the units. Fortunately, there are many conversions tables on the web, so it is not hard for everyone to switch back and forth. The hardest conversion for me is from tablespoons to fluid ounces.

14 pounds in a stone...now doesn't that sound better saying your weight in stones rather than pounds or kilos? :D

A tad nerdish I know but this video popped up during a random search, so I watched it and found it interesting, plus at 6:44 on the video my local Worcester store is featured [IMG] sadly I am not in the photo [IMG]

Have a good weekend, wherever you shop [IMG]

Thanks, Terry. Interesting video. An Aldi opened here just this year. I assumed it was another Trader Joe's. I'll have to try it now. Closes at 8pm. :(

Funnily enough Nancy I have just been shopping in Aldi, not the one in the video, but the much larger one near my daughters house, where I was feeding the cat and the guinea pigs ;) I was amazed to see some prices had actually fallen since I last shopped there. Their prices are will generally 25% less than the other main supermarkets.

I treated myself to a Creme Caramel liqueur so spent my savings  ........ I have just tried a glass, it's delicious though probably full of unhealthy stuff  it would be great poured over ice cream I am sure.

A good morning or wherever you are in your day, I am all alone this weekend, Caroline and her family are in Cambridge, Cathy family and dog are in Amsterdam and Lisa is in Croatia with her family so I am free to misbehave as much as I like [IMG]

    Have a great weekend everyone

39 F. (3.9 C.) here this morning, so for you who are still suffering from the heat, enjoy the rest of your summer. I don't know if it will continue to be cool, but chances are, our summer is over and we are into fall. Three of our greenhouses are able to be heated, but it adds expense and effort into everything, so we don't do much of it when the temps are consistently low. The sun is out, so it will warm somewhat during the day and we will have the fans on to reduce the mold problems.

@Terry Page there are no Aldi's here, but if they don't provide free carts, I wouldn't frequent them anyway if there were an alternative. I walk but not well, and I sometimes have a hard time returning the carts to the cart return, much less back to the store. Most of the other cost-saving measures I understand. Perhaps they are not here because I believe the State of Alaska requires every employee to have a job description so they can fully understand their job duties and responsibilities.

The carts at Aldi ARE actually free, @Don Alaska . How it works is that they are connected together in the cart rack, and when you put a quarter into the connection on the cart, it disconnects from the next cart in the rack.
When you are done shopping, and you return your cart to the rack, then you get your quarter back when you re-connect the cart again. Oftentimes, what happens is you get to the store, head over to get a shopping cart, and meet someone who is on their way to return their cart, and you just give them the quarter and take their cart.
Or people will give you their cart and not accept the quarter, so you then pass along the cart free to the next shopper when you are done. No matter which way it works out, everyone gets their quarters back, and we all have a good time shopping at Aldi.

They do have shorter store hours, @Nancy Hart .
Ours doesn’t open until 9, which is really late for a chain grocery store; since some of the larger grocery stores are open 24 hours, or at least only closed for 4-6 hours per day. I don’t go out much after 4pm; so I never paid any attention to what time Aldi closes; but I would guess that probably closes early, too.
What state are you in that you have both Trader Joe’s and Aldi, Nancy ?

@Yvonne Smith, I'm in Georgia, about 70 miles from Atlanta. I mention that, because Atlanta has everything, but I never go there. Yes, we have both (Trader Joe's and Aldi), but only very recently.
