My wife and I enjoy playing Backgammon. One of the few things we had in common when we first met was our love of Backgammon and America's Cup sailing. She would come over to watch the races on my TV because I had cable and that year the races were held 'Down Under'. Back to Backgammon. We have had an on going tournament (just the two of us), that really got underway when we lived in UK in a small village. We called it, " The Edge of the Earith Tournament " because when people asked how to get to our village, we would state the directions, with a firm note that if they went too far, the next village was Earith. And they probably would fall off the edge! As it stands, I am on a very long losing streak. Odin, does not smile on me. To change my luck, I ordered a new set. It arrived and already I think there is something wrong with it. I'm still losing more games than winning. At least one good things comes out of my losing, it brings a smile to my wife's face. As they say, 'Happy Wife, Happy Life...' This is how we'll wile away the hours outside, this 'almost summer'. What plans do you have to 'wile' away the summer? * I put this under 'Sports and Recreation', even if it's not much recreation for me sometimes...
Sweet story! Ive never played backgammon. I have played chess though...played it with my husband, he was very good. I seldom beat him. My one grandson ..the 14 yr old plays, he's pretty good but I can still beat him probably not for long. I'll have to google backgammon because although I'm familiar with what the board looks like I don't know much after that.

We hated each others sports teams, she thought I was a 'pest' and I thought she was wonderful... Backgammon was very popular in the 70's and most of the up scale lounges had tournaments. Like men wearing a watch, this to, fell out of favor. I lose alot of games because she is Diabolical and ruthless. I'm kidding of course! It does give us something to do while sitting outside.
Many years ago, when I was in my late teens, I rented a house in Cypress with a friend of mine, and we would play Backgammon. I enjoyed the game, but I haven't played since. We also had an ongoing game of Chess. Since he worked days and I worked nights, we didn't see one another a lot, which is generally a plus when you're renting a house with someone, so I'd make a move before I went to work. He'd make his move when he got up, before he went to work, and I'd make another when I go home, and so on. Backgammon was more fun to play in real time, though.
