Noticing that more and more people are choosing to have, or keep, the hardwood flooring in houses they buy on Home & Gardens Network. In fact, all of the vacated apartments in our complex are having the carpet taken out and are having hardwood flooring put in. It's part of Renovations for the apartments here. Until we move out, our apartment stays the same as it was when we moved in........living room, dining room, hallway and bedrooms are carpet.

My question is, if a Senior looses their balance on hardwood flooring, they could really be physically hurt. I lost my balance on our living room carpeted floor, fell on the carpet and was fine. My wife fell in our spare bedroom and, due to carpeting, she was fine.

Of course, homes being sold and/or Renovated on that tv Network are not being bought or Renovated by Seniors and are apartment complex is not designated as a Senior complex.

We are debating this question currently. I think we, too, are leaning toward carpet as the floors are warmer.

I have carpet in the bedrooms, tile in kitchen and bath and hardwood everywhere else. I haven't fallen yet...at least not inside.

Did fall a few years ago outside on wet cement ...hit the pavement hard. Had a huge bruise and golfball size hematoma on my thigh but it went away after awhile.

I prefer hardwood but it gets dusty fast!!

Hardwood flooring became a big fashion statement here about 20 years ago..everyone removed their carpets, and bought either cheap laminated wood or expensive Oak type flooring.

We never did...instead we tiled the downstairs completely with ceramic tiles..but kept carpet in the livingroom, stairs and bedrooms ..and ceramic flooring in the bathrooms..

I like the look of Oak wood flooring ( never laminate)... but I prefer carpet on the floors in the livingrooms and bedrooms....also the dogs scramble around slipping everywhere on wood and laminate flooring too....and also they get very dusty verrrry quickly

I have friends who live in apartments, who have people above them with wood flooring, and the noise from above when they're walking around is incredible... I don't think they should be permitted in apartment blocks..

We tore the nasty carpeting out of our house when we moved in, all four layers of it, and have the hardwood floors, which are in pretty good shape.

We had carpet for many years. People don't realize how dirty carpet can get even while vacuuming all the time especially if there is several layers. We went to wood floors, and area rugs go well. With COPD, I would never have carpet again.

When we bought our house, there were carpets in the living room..
The people that we bought from had an unruly dog that destroyed the carpet, so I removed it and installed oak laminate which is still in perfect shape after 15 years..
Carpets in the bedrooms and on the stairs only......

Conversely when we got this house, there were no ugly or dirty carpets to get rid of...they had tiled floors in here...so bought all new carpet throughout, which since has been replaced on several occasions and the tiling upgraded...

We removed the previous owners worn carpet in the living and dining rooms only to find two-toned stained hardwood flooring. After tolerating it by the use of area rugs I am ready to make a change.

This is a floor I just finished a few days ago. The house was built in the 40's and when I pulled up the old carpeting it was all oak so after a lot of sanding, staining and coats of poly it's almost where I want it.

We live in apartment. The carpet in living room and dining area, look awful even after cleaning. Spoke with manager yesterday, and come time to renew our lease, they will remove carpet from those areas and replace with some sort of - looks like wood vinyl flooring. We will like that much better. Carpet will remain in bedrooms, which is fine.
Will have to have all the furniture moved around so they can get it done asap then.

I think that hardwood floors look beautiful, and they also help to give the house more of an old-fashioned look, back when all homes had bare floors and maybe throw rugs here and there, and a big rag-rug in the main room.
However, if it is a house where I am going to live, then I definitely want carpeting !
I have a dreadful fear of falling nowdays, and any floor that looks at all slick, I avoid as much as possible. When @Bobby Cole made us a beautiful deck with varnished wood on the floor, he then had to add a small area rug before I would even sit out there with him to have morning coffee together.

Actually , the floors are easier to care for than the carpet is also; but the carpet feel better underfoot, especially in the winter.
